Rangers want a quick deal to sign the £2.5m star

Glasgow Rangers head coach Danny Rohl needs to improve his defensive options when the summer transfer window opens later this month.

The Light Blues have already signed Lawrence Shankland from Hearts to add to their attacking ranks, but he has scored the most goals (43) in the teams that finished in the top four of the Scottish Premiership this season.

Motherwell, Hearts, and Celtic have all conceded fewer goals than the Gers, who haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last eight games in this division.

It has already been reported that the Scottish giants are leading the race to sign Dundee left-back Luke Graham to bolster their options at the back.

However, Dundee scored 61 goals in 38 games in the Premiership, and it will be seen how his quality will change playing for a better team.

Rangers are seeking a deal to sign the Swedish defender

Rangers, who conceded two goals in their win over Falkirk on the final day of the season, are looking at alternatives for the Scotland defender in their bid to improve their defensive record.

In fact, these Scottish giants are said to want to bring in an international star who may sign better than Graham of the Light Blues.

According to Football Insider, Glasgow Rangers are looking for a quick deal to bring Casper Widell to Ibrox from Dutch side Excelsior in the summer transfer window, as they believe he can be a valuable defensive player.

The report states that the Gers are hopeful they can complete a quick deal so the defender can beat competition from other clubs at the start of the season.

It adds that the 23-year-old colossus has one year left on his contract with his club and that he could be available for between £2m and £2.5m this summer.

Rangers are now looking to quickly sign Widell because they want to make sure they beat Blackburn Rovers and Derby County, who are also looking for him, to sign him.

Why Casper Widell would be a better Rangers player than Luke Graham

While Graham would be an interesting addition to the squad as a proven Premiership player and young Scottish talent, Widell may be a better signing for the Gers.

The big difference between playing for Dundee and playing for Rangers as a center back player is that there is a lot of expectation from him in holding the ball since the Gers are in charge of most games and they need their defenders to show quality and calmness in football.

Widell’s performance for Excelsior in the top flight in the Netherlands suggests he is more ready to do so than Graham, as he has shown more quality with the ball at his feet than the Scotland U21 international.

The Swedish defender’s passing numbers have been more impressive than Graham’s across the board, and it’s worth noting his accurate passing into the opposition’s half on a game-by-game basis.

Widell averaged more than four passes per game in the opponent’s half, showing that he is very accustomed to having the ball at his feet up the field and finding his teammates in advanced positions.

Although Graham played in a struggling team in Dundee that did not give him many opportunities to show his ability in handling the ball, the truth is that the Gers cannot confidently say that he will stand out on the ball in a dominant team.

That is why it can be dangerous, in a sense, to sign a left-footed defender, because it is difficult to gauge whether or not he would be suitable to play in a team that has the ball up top.

Widell, described as a “leader” by Kai Watson of RangersJournal, looks more suited to the team as a full-back, and he also won 61% of his duels in the Erediise and showed that he can be an excellent defender.

The Swedish titan, therefore, looks like a much better defender than Graham and could be a better signing for the Gers if he can get this deal over the £2.5m line.

Rangers could sign 22-goal star Alfredo Morelos for £4m

Rangers must push to sign the £4m-rated star who could be the equivalent of Alfredo Morelos in his first spell under Danny Rohl.
