Tottenham are also in advanced talks to sign the £50k-a-week star after Robertson
Tottenham Hotspur are now in advanced talks over a deal for the Premier League’s “absolutely outstanding” star, as well as their deal with Andy Robertson.
Spurs close deal to sign Robertson
With Tottenham finally securing their Premier League status, courtesy of a 1-0 home win against Everton on the final day, they can now start making summer plans with more confidence, and reporter Ben Jacobs has revealed that Robertson is set to move to north London.
The left-back is available on a free transfer, having played his last game for Liverpool in a 1-1 draw with Brentford on Sunday, and will arrive at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a wealth of experience at the top level, having won two Premier League titles and the Champions League.
Signing a new defender could be important in the coming window, given the uncertainty over Cristian Romero’s future, as Barcelona attempt to sign the Argentine, who has recently been criticized by Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville.
Following reports that Romero was not planning to be at the Everton game, Neville said: “They came here today to support their team and the captain or the team is thinking about not being here for the last game of the season. Bad decision. Bad choice.
“What do you think? Didn’t you think he’d been seen since he came back from Argentina? Didn’t you think he’d appear lost?”
Tottenham are now in advanced talks to sign the centre-back
According to The Daily Mail, sporting director Johan Lange and chief executive Vinai Venkatesham are looking to add ‘leaders’ to Roberto De Zerbi’s squad in the summer, which explains the interest in Robertson and AFC Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi.
Spurs are now in advanced talks to sign Senesi, who earns £50k-a-week, and is out of contract at Bournemouth at the end of June, while the Cherries have confirmed he is on the move.
Losing the Argentine could be a real blow for incoming manager Marco Rose, given the key role he played in Bournemouth’s Europa League qualification, having missed just one Premier League game all season.
Praised as “absolutely outstanding” by content creator Seb Martin, the 29-year-old showed a real willingness to put his body on the line, averaging 1.3 blocks in 90, which is joint third in the entire top flight.
Romero, on the other hand, should be questioned about his initial decision to stay in Argentina, before making a U-turn and returning to London for the last game of the season.
The Spurs captain has come in for criticism throughout the campaign, with Simon Jordan lying to him last month, and it would be better to let him go this summer, with Senesi showing he can be a strong player.
