Andy Robertson pays emotional tribute to Pep Guardiola in Liverpool farewell interview

Andy Robertson bid an emotional farewell to Liverpool fans on the final day of the season, as he paid tribute to footballers Pep Guardiola and Seamus Coleman on an unforgettable night at Anfield.

The Scotsman leaves Liverpool after nine years and 377 appearances at the end of his contract, which has been a huge success for the club.

The 31-year-old played in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Brentford on Sunday, a game that was part of the Premier League’s final day celebrations but also served as his farewell to the left-back.

Andy Robertson highlights Pep Guardiola’s dominance over Liverpool in the Premier League race

In his interview after the game no Sky SportsRobertson has highlighted two great figures also leaving their clubs, with particular praise for Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.

“For me, there are two other people who left the clubs today who are very important,” said Robertson.

“Pep Guardiola has pushed us to completely new limits, I think we can both agree on that. He has pushed us to completely new limits and we should have won more Premier Leagues if it wasn’t for that man. He is a servant of Manchester City and I wish him all the best.”

Robertson’s comments underscore the fierce but respectful rivalry between Liverpool and Guardiola’s Manchester City in one of the most competitive seasons in Premier League history.

During Guardiola’s tenure, Liverpool twice came agonizingly close to Premier League glory.

In the 2018-19 season, they collected 97 points but still finished second, one point behind City.

Three years later in 2021-22, Liverpool again pushed City on the final day before missing out on the title.

Seamus Coleman was also honored with an emotional farewell at Anfield

Robertson also paid tribute to Everton captain Seamus Coleman, who is also retiring from professional football after a long and distinguished career.

The Everton defender has been one of the Premier League’s most loyal servants, and Robertson acknowledged his contribution on an emotional night that marked his most recent departure from English football.

Robertson leaves Liverpool with nine trophies after completing nine years

Robertson leaves Anfield, along with Mohamed Salah, as one of Liverpool’s most successful modern stars, having won nine major trophies including the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

While his legacy was firmly cemented at Liverpool, the era defined by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City often stood in the way of major success for Jürgen Klopp’s side.

Still, Robertson emerges as a key figure in one of the most competitive and memorable moments in Premier League history.
