Celtic are now preparing their first bid to sign a top English talent

Celtic are now ready to launch a bid to sign Cameron Ashia from Huddersfield Town after completing a number of checks on the highly-rated England international.

Celtic are ready to launch a move for Ashia

Celtic recently won the Scottish Premiership title in a surprising way against Hearts, heading into the transfer window.

They will not want a repeat of the existing campaign. As entertaining as the drama was, the Bhoys must be determined to renew their dominance in Scotland next season, starting with the arrival of a few new faces.

Among those new faces could be a new manager following Martin O’Neill’s temporary return. After that, the focus will be on players, which could lead to the arrival of a League One star.

According to Sports Boom, Celtic are considering a bid for Ashia from Huddersfield this summer. The Hoops have completed a number of tests on the attacking midfielder and see him as a potential signing.

The 21-year-old is also seen as one of the most highly-rated talents in League One and will remain a target for Celtic regardless of who secures a top spot this summer.

It’s easy to see why there is interest in Ashia ahead of the transfer window. The Huddersfield star has been involved in nine goals in all competitions this season, scoring six and creating three more, and that’s just getting started.

Whether the Bhoys can lure the Englishman away from being exploited by EFL clubs remains a big question. Champion lures definitely won’t hurt them in that regard.

O’Neill responds to claims of “lack of class”.

It wasn’t just Maeda’s goal and Callum Osmand’s late effort that made the difference at Celtic Park last weekend. It was the scenes that followed Osmand’s goal, with the fans entering the field in front of the heartbroken Hearts players, which sparked unpleasant scenes.

Speaking on Talksport, however, O’Neill defended Celtic and hit back at claims the scenes showed a “lack of class” on Saturday afternoon.

“I’m sorry, I don’t agree with that at all. I don’t know about the conflict between the Hearts players, and there’s a lot of exaggeration about that, let’s get the real picture.

“The truth is that when we scored the third goal, the game was over, there were about eight seconds left, whatever the situation. The referee said he blew the final whistle at the end. Then there was obvious excitement, we have won the league.”

The debate will no doubt go on and on in those scenes. Celtic, however, are still Scottish champions after completing a thrilling title challenge to deny Hearts history.
