Leicester City could now re-sign ‘happy’ striker as manager expects him to step down

Leicester City are preparing for life in League One, but could re-sign the ‘exciting’ striker after his impressive 2025/2026 campaign.

The Foxes are poised for an important summer after a second successive relegation

10 years ago, Leicester were Premier League champions. Today, they are preparing for third division football.

The pace of the collapse is almost unfathomable – two successive relegations, the EFL’s six-point deduction due to financial breaches, fans at break-even and the chairman issuing a public apology on what was guaranteed to be the worst night.

A 2–2 draw with Hull City on 22 April sealed their fate, making Leicester only the fifth club in history to be relegated to the third tier.

It was a night of protests outside the King Power Stadium, with fans chanting “Get Out of Our Club” to chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, who also issued a statement admitting that “there are no excuses” for what has happened.

He appears as a tough opponent.

Manager Gary Rowett, who is expected to be sacked this summer, was equally apologetic.

The statistics were shocking throughout.

Leicester won just one of their last 18 Championship games before being officially relegated, with Jordan James the only player to reach double figures throughout the campaign.

A six-point deduction due to financial violations in February hastened what had been a long time coming.

Now the reconstruction begins in earnest.

Rowett has called on management to make “big decisions,” and as League One football is guaranteed, the recruitment process must start all over again.

It is against that background that a name with a personal history at the club has emerged as a genuine summer target.

Leicester could re-sign Tyrese Shade after a stellar season for Burton Albion

Tyrese Shade, a 25-year-old striker who spent five years at Leicester’s academy, could be set for a return home.

The Birmingham-born striker – who represents St Kitts and Nevis internationally – enjoyed a breakout season at Burton Albion after arriving from non-league Eastleigh last summer.

His 14 goals in all competitions, including an FA Cup hat-trick against Brackley and a brace against promotion-chasing Stockport, turned the club around and Burton rejected a bid of more than £1 million last January to keep him.

That rating will have increased since then.

It was Brackley’s hat-trick, coming back in December, that started the wider game. And it was his manager’s reaction that spoke volumes for the player’s quality and character.

“Tyrese is exciting, he has bags of talent. I love watching him play,” said Burton’s coach, Gary Bowyer.

“He’s got a swagger that’s not arrogance, but confidence in his ability. He’s got the ability to go past people, and we saw that tonight. I’m happy for him for his first career hat-trick.

“He came from the National League and he just played a lot of League One football – probably more than we thought he would do at first.”

Bowyer has publicly confirmed that he does not expect Shade to be at the Pirelli Stadium next season, admitting that the summer will bring the inevitable interest.

SportsBoom claim that Leicester are among the clubs interested in doing so, while the Foxes are understood to be looking to move their former academy man.

Shade’s versatility only adds to his appeal.

Primarily a winger, he has shown this season that he can lead the line convincingly as a forward – two strengths that could provide options for Leicester.

Birmingham City, his hometown club, are also monitoring his progress, and will push Leicester for his signature.

For a player who was in non-league football 12 months ago, it could be a return trip to Leicester.
