Ipswich have entered the race to sign the £22m defender after completing a personal assessment.

Ipswich Town have jumped into the race to sign Enzo Boyomo from Osasuna this summer, as they look to land their first signing ahead of the return of the Premier League.

Ipswich are completing a trial run on Boyomo

The Tractor Boys are wasting no time before they focus on the transfer market. They will know more than most how difficult it is to stay in the Premier League and will need to do things differently in their second attempt in three years.

With that said, Kieran McKenna has seen many stars arrive at Portman Road this summer. Names like Zan Vipotnik are already on their radar, but it’s not just a reinforced attack that Suffolk are aiming for.

According to reports in Spain, relayed by Sport Witness, Ipswich have entered the race to sign Boyomo after completing an assessment of the Osasuna defender.

The 24-year-old full-back has found himself in the headlines with a number of sides in England, but Ipswich will be hoping to lure him to Portman Road this summer.

It is easy to see why there is interest in Boyomo. He has helped Osasuna hold their place in the top half of La Liga and produced good numbers along the way.

Alongside Dara O’Shea, he will be successful again for Ipswich. Although the Portman Road star has enjoyed a fantastic season, there are still weaknesses that Boyomo can help cover without playing football.

Ipswich fans, is Boyomo the first successful Premier League signing?

It could all come down to how much Ipswich are willing to spend this summer. The defender has a €25 million (£22m) release clause, meaning the Bulls can skip any lengthy negotiations if they decide to spend.

It wasn’t always the norm, but Ipswich struck in style at just the right time to secure automatic promotion on the final day of the Championship campaign. It is the second time in three seasons that McKenna has achieved such a feat and he was quick to praise his own last weekend.

“It’s hard to enjoy it, if you’re honest, you want it for everyone, the guys who didn’t have it in the team and the fans and your family mean a lot.

“It wasn’t easy for that group of players but they stuck with it and you can’t understand how difficult it is to get into the Premier League. It’s a big achievement.”

The challenge now is to stay still. Sunderland and Leeds United have already left a plan on how to avoid relegation for the first time this season. It is up to Ipswich to follow suit or face the same fate as Burnley next campaign.
