The SPFL has been tipped to step in as McCoist is shocked by the Celtic Rangers allocation review

Rangers have complained to league officials after being told they would not be able to get tickets for a key game at Celtic Park unless they kicked out the Union Bears.

Rangers rejected Celtic’s terms of giving tickets for the May 10 match, and could have a big say in the William Hill Premiership title race. Celtic reacted with “surprise and disappointment” that Rangers did not agree terms.

The move comes after fans stormed the pitch from the Union Bears’ home ground after Celtic’s Scottish Cup win at Ibrox on March 8.

A Celtic player and staff were allegedly assaulted by Rangers fans heading towards the Broomloan Stand after the visiting supporters spilled out to cheer.

Manchester United’s famous couple had different opinions…

Part of the Rangers’ statement reads as follows: “Celtic has informed us that they will not give tickets for the upcoming game to our fans unless we agree that the tickets will not be reserved for members of the Union Bears.”

“We strongly rejected those terms and have referred the matter to the SPFL board.”

McCoist asks SPFL to ‘step in’

Ibrox legend Ally McCoist, speaking to TalkSPORT, is still shocked by what happened, calling Celtic’s actions ‘disgraceful’ and backing the league to ‘step in’.

“It’s a shame actually.

“The Celtic fans entered the stadium at Ibrox, of course the Rangers fans shouldn’t have entered the stadium and held their own, but if the Celtic fans had not come to the stadium there would not have been a problem.

“But to start picking and choosing who they want to come to the games? I’m doing something. And, the truth is it’s not right, it’s not right at all and they have to fix it.” (via Rangers Review)

An SPFL spokesman said: “The SPFL board is about to appoint a sub-committee to consider Rangers’ application for a ruling under SPFL Rule I27.”

.

That rule stipulates that clubs must make provision for a “reasonable number” of visiting fans and allows the SPFL board to decide the price of tickets.

A statement from Celtic read: “To be clear, we are ready and willing to make the full allocation as usual available to Rangers, subject to the objective of the distribution of a particular category.

“Celtic’s priority will always be the safety of those who will be attending Celtic Park, and following a review of the risk information regarding the upcoming game, the club has made a reasonable request to Rangers that tickets not be distributed to a section of fans who have recently been involved in serious violence and disorder involving Celtic fans, staff, police and Celtic management.

“What shocked and disappointed us is that Rangers have not accepted this request.

“Celtic is ready to continue with the SPFL and Rangers on this matter.
