Chelsea will face Arsenal legend after sacking Liam Rosenior

Chelsea could be closing in on an Arsenal legend as Liam Rosenior has now officially been sacked.
Rosenior has been officially sacked by Chelsea after his worst run in 114 years
Rosenior’s tenure as Chelsea head coach came to an end this afternoon after the club’s form slumped to an all-time low, with Calum McFarlane appointed as interim manager.
Tuesday’s 3-0 defeat at Brighton was Chelsea’s fifth consecutive Premier League defeat without scoring a single goal – the first time the club has endured such a run since November 1912.
The Buccaneers last found the net in a league win against Aston Villa at the beginning of March, and have since been beaten by Newcastle, Everton, Manchester City, Manchester United and Brighton.
Chelsea now sit seven points behind fifth-placed Liverpool with five games remaining.
Qualifying for the Champions League, which seemed achievable a few weeks ago, is now very much in doubt.
Liam Rosenior says ‘goodbye’ to Chelsea players as title-winning manager is installed
The Blues have lost their last five Premier League away games.
The situation inside the club worsened before Rosenior’s dismissal, according to various reports, and his departure was inevitable in creating a statement for Chelsea.
During the loss at the Amex Stadium, Chelsea failed to register a single effort on target, and Rosenior was the subject of chants from the traveling fans in the second half.
He later admitted the performance was “unsafe in all respects.”
Some believe German manager Julian Nagelsmann is Chelsea’s dream to succeed Rosenior, but he is not the only big name on their radar.
Chelsea will talk to Cesc Fabregas and the now-dismissed Liam Rosenior
According to insider Simon Phillips, things were toxic after the final whistle against Brighton.
Sources told Phillips, via his Substack, that Rosenior did not conduct a team talk after the game, saying goodbye to his staff and players before leaving the field.
Phillips also reported that other players were ‘laughing and joking’ about the manager in their huddles, with trust and respect in the dressing room being described as missing.
The 41-year-old took over in January after the departure of Enzo Maresca and had been backed for at least the start of next season.
However, now the line has been drawn.
Phillips reports that Como manager Cesc Fàbregas has emerged as the front-runner to replace Rosenior, and the west Londoners look set to approach him now that they have decided to move him out.
Phillips said earlier today that Chelsea will approach Fabregas about taking over in the summer after McFarlane sees them out until the end of 25/26 – it is unlikely to come soon.
“Based on what I’ve heard, I’d be VERY surprised if we didn’t get an official statement from Chelsea today saying they’ve let him go and McFarlane is taking over the club for the time being – probably until the summer when they look for a new permanent manager,” Phillips said.
“I know they will talk to Cesc Fabregas if this happens, but I’m not sure he will come now.”
The Arsenal legend, who also played 198 games for Chelsea between 2014 and 2019, and has received much praise for his work in Italy, is guiding Como through a successful spell in Serie A.
The Como president has publicly admitted that Fabregas could one day leave a big club, naming Chelsea among those he could see joining.
