What’s in the bag for this content creator with a 200 mph fastball

Dalton Joyce (@youngdalt) is a golf content creator known for showing his dedication to health, fitness and enjoying the game of golf once in a while. He also produces ball speeds of up to 200+ miles per hour. Known for his “No one cares, work hard” mentality, it’s fun to watch Dalton work, and follow his success on his Instagram page. I caught up with Joyce at the Callaway Ambassador tournament last month to see what was in the bag of the fast golfer and why he chooses to play the Callaway clubs that he does.
The top end of the options are built for speed
Consistency is king
Swinging at the speed that reaches Joyce, there are some unique problems that must be solved at the end of the bag. For him, especially with the driver, it’s about consistency in the spin. This has been a big talking point with Callaway over the past few years as they continue to improve on their Ai-Smart Face. That technology was developed to use Ai to create faces that support off-center hits. Usually this is done by adding speed where it’s needed, but Callaway has started to hone in on spin consistency. With the introduction of the Tri-Force face this year on Callaway’s Quantum drivers, this product has added more speed and stability. For Dalton, that’s all.

When asked about his transition to the Quantum Triple Diamond 9º Joyce said, “I switched to the Quantum driver very quickly this year… it takes a little time (usually) but this time there was some hesitation.

Mini in name only
The next team in his bag is the Callaway Elyte Mini, which – spoiler alert – will be replaced by the upcoming Quantum Mini (more on that soon). Joyce’s Mini is a “tool” in the bag, often replacing his driver on courses where his driver doesn’t make much sense on the course. Joyce talks a lot about course technique, and gear techniques, and how that helps his game. He tied the current course record at TPC Houston, so I’ll let him guide me to success this time. The Mini plays a big role in his wallet, however. It replaces the driver when necessary, but also serves as a second tee option for courses that require a shot shape from the tee. He finds it easier to manage the flight of the Mini than the pilot.

No 3 wood
Next to the mini sits the Callaway Apex UW at 17º of loft. In Joyce’s bag it works as a replacement for 3 woods. Because of the position of UW and the single step they have added to the newest generation of the club, it is a very easy club to beat. For Joyce, this means that the entire 5th stage is doubly accessible with very little stress. If he has a driver in the bag, and has a sense of confidence that isn’t in the day, the UW will be in the bag over the Mini just to make sure all the guns he needs are in the bag. He says he’s not good at it, but working outside was hard to ignore.

A club with impact and influence
Yes, we are at the bottom of the bag. As an important part of Joyce’s success, he has really locked down this area of the wallet for problem solving. Are they the most reliable problem-solver in the bag? His latest generation is the Callaway Apex UT. He likes the design of this version much better than the last one.
“This is probably my favorite club in the bag. I think this is a lot better than their last UT model. The offset looks really good to me, I didn’t think the other one had enough offset for what the face was…this one looks a little more irony than the last one.”

That is something we agree on. What we don’t agree with is the ability to hit this thing the way it does. The UT in his hands, in this variant of the 3-iron, would be his 265-yard shot into a “short” par 5. He’ll do that by hitting something. I don’t have that in my bag, but it’s really fun to watch Dalton do it. There was actually a place where Joyce only had one cover in the bag: her driver.
“I used to drive, this is the first mini I ever had, I used to drive, 16-iron, 20-iron, then I’d go with a 4-iron and move on to something else … but this is easy for me now.”
Controlling the remaining fund
X-Forged steels alone
Joyce chooses Callaway X-Forged (2025) irons in 4-PW to grip the middle of the bag.
“Big fan of these,” he said. “I think that even though it’s a heel to toe, it gives me confidence. I felt that the TCBs I’ve played for a long time were really good but because of their hardness I didn’t understand why they were so hard on the toe.”
Joyce stated that she does not like instruments with short blades. “I like the old look, when I look at this I just think of Phil Mickelson the main.”
For Joyce, the X-Forged sole is a dream. Having a tri-soles design allows him to stay aggressive with every iron on the tee, while ensuring that the club leaves the planted area well; the most important factor in selecting high-speed instruments.

Finishing the bag
At the bottom of the bag Joyce wraps up his set with Callaway Opus SP wedges and Odyssey Ai-One Milled 7T in silver, although the putter was replaced with a PGA Tour Superstore find used for a barrel during our filming trip. Now you have an exclusive Odyssey 2 Ball Ten Triple Track PGA Tour 2K putter in the bag, because why not?

Joyce also said that he has been trying Callaway’s Opus SP+ wedges and has seen good results. He also revealed that he can carry his lob wedge about 120 yards. He is comfortable swinging his shortest club ever “… about 115 [yards] low spirit,” he joked, “I spin it too much, friend.”

“I tried the SP+, I think I’m the first to hit them. Between two balls … the trajectory from 40 yards must have dropped 10ft … it’s unbelievable … it makes me feel a lot better than I should, but I’ll take it.”
After asking about his lobber grind he responded with a cool little nugget. “With the SP+ the Z-grind was the one I felt the best about. This (Opus SP) is a C-grind, on the SP+ it’s definitely a Z-grind. As soon as I put the Z-grind on, that’s when I started seeing the (presentation) benefits of the SP+”
Lots of golf balls in play
Depending on the course Joyce will change golf balls.
“If it’s a big, wide open golf course, I’ll just send out the Triple Diamond if I know I’m going to hit a lot of drivers. But for tournament purposes I’m a (Chrome) Tour guy. I’ve done a lot of testing with the R&D ball at Callaway and I’m more of a Tour guy than the X. I just spin the X a lot less, especially during the irons.”
