Alasdair Gold calls Tottenham player a “jinx” who cost £35m and doesn’t include anything

Alasdair Gold has criticized Conor Gallagher for his performance in Tottenham Hotspur’s defeat at Sunderland on Sunday, and the impact he has made since joining in January.

Roberto De Zerbi’s reign got off to a rocky start on Sunday afternoon, as Tottenham lost 1-0 at the Stadium of Light, with Nordi Mukiele’s deflected effort just after the hour showing the difference between the two sides.

However, the new manager refused to criticize his players too much, insisting that his team deserved the game, saying:We didn’t deserve to lose. We played a good game, but maybe not good enough to win.

“I won’t say anything to the players because they gave everything they could in terms of attitude and spirit. We can play better but my job is not so much on the field as it is mental. They are all good people and I feel sorry for them. I want to give them the confidence they need.”

That said, at this stage of the season, results are more important than performances, and Spurs now find themselves in a dangerous position, sitting 18th in the Premier League, two points from safety.

While De Zerbi was impressed with some of the things he saw from his side, Gold was more critical of Gallagher’s performances, and questioned the impact the midfielder has made since his arrival in a recent YouTube video.

“He gives the impression that he’s always busy, but in reality he’d be hard-pressed to document anything he’s done that’s relevant and relevant to the campaign.

“He hasn’t managed to win a game against Tottenham in the Premier League since he arrived. That’s the worst feeling I can imagine. It probably makes you feel like you’re a jinx in the team.”

Gallagher is one of many Spurs players who need to improve

When he signed from Atletico Madrid in a £35m January deal, the Englishman probably wouldn’t have expected Tottenham to be in this position, but he should step it up in the coming weeks, as he struggled to make an impact against Sunderland.

The midfielder didn’t create many chances and made zero tackles, but he wasn’t the only player to cheat, with Lucas Bergvall getting a SofaScore match rating of just 5.7, after touching the ball just 19 times before his substitution just after the hour.

To avoid relegation, it will require a great effort from the whole team, as they have not done well many times this season, starting next weekend, when Spurs host De Zerbi’s club, Brighton & Hove Albion.
