JJ Spaun’s Titleist driver has taken part in his last two victories

On the 71st hole of his last two PGA Tour wins, JJ Spaun delivered two of the most impressive drives of his career.
Both came with one driver.
At Oakmont, Spaun was tied for the lead with Robert MacIntyre when he claimed the championship shot by driving the par-4 17th green, his ball passing right of the cup, en route to the lead birdie.
Last Sunday, Spaun did it again and in the toughest position of his time to follow by one shot on the 17th hole at TPC San Antonio. His tee ball landed just short of the green and landed within 10 feet. This time, Spaun converted an eagle putt to go ahead and birdied the difficult par-5 18th to post 17 under, which seemed to set him up for his third PGA Tour victory and second at the Valero Texas Open.
“I think if it was more windy I would have hit 3 wood, but I knew I was one of the leaders. I wanted to be aggressive and hit the driver, hit like a 90 percent driver,” Spaun said after the win. “I had a flash off my tee at Oakmont at the US Open last year on the 17th on Sunday where I drove the green and ended up making birdie. It was a great image I had in my mind before I made the cut and hit the shot.

Spaun has taken his game to the next level since switching to Titleist GT3 driver in the summer of 2024. He was originally in the GT2 model when the club debuted on the PGA Tour that summer, but Spaun worked with Titleist Tour representative Larry Silveira at that year’s 3M Open to dial in his spin rates, which led him to GT3.
Spaun plays his driver in the B1 position, playing the driver at its stated 9 degree angle but flattening it three quarters of a degree. He also moves the SureFit CG track weight to the T1 position. Both of these changes give the club a touch more of a fair bias.
Pairs the head with the Fujikura Ventus Black 6-X and VeloCore+. Ventus Black was the driver for all four majors last season, including Spaun, and so far this season is the winningest shaft profile on the PGA Tour, with five victories in 13 events. Last week’s winner, Gary Woodland, also sports Ventus Black and VeloCore+.

Before switching to GT, Spaun was ranked 146th on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee, but was 41st last season.
Last week at TPC San Antonio, he was 16 for the week, nearly two strokes OTT, with a 1.362 coming into the final round. The tee shot at No. The 17 itself earned him 1.08 strokes as he set up a forward eagle.
Although Titleist has begun production of its next-generation line of GTS drivers, Spaun doesn’t seem ready to change. You can take advantage of the time as GT drivers are currently $200 off!
