Ibrahim Mbaye’s stance on PSG exit as Aston Villa leapfrog Tottenham in transfer race
Aston Villa’s search for the next generation of top talent could take them to Paris, with highly-rated youngster Ibrahim Mbaye reportedly a top target.
The 18-year-old enjoyed a successful campaign for PSG last term, making 28 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and registering two assists.
However, only a handful of those trips came in the first place, with Luis Enrique often using him as a backup behind a solid attacking team that featured Ousmane Dembélé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Bradley Barcola, Désiré Doué and Lee Kang-in.
Despite showing his great potential, Mbaye found it difficult to fit into the strongest PSG team.
His chances became less and less after returning from international duty earlier this year, when the youngster was suddenly dropped as competition for places increased.
That lack of regular football has naturally raised questions about whether staying in Paris is the best step for his development.
According to Foot Mercato editor Sébastien Denis, Mbaye is considering a move away from the French champions.

Denis reports that ‘Mbaye no longer wants to play a small part in Paris’, and adds that the boy is frustrated because of his limited opportunities, although ‘his team is trying to stop him from leaving.
His review also reveals that while “Tottenham are attracted by his profile,” the club currently leading the race is Aston Villa.

Unai Emery has built a reputation for developing young players while competing at the highest level, and Villa could offer something PSG cannot currently guarantee: a clear path towards regular first-team football.
Although the competition will still be intense at Villa Park, Mbaye would not be competing against a strong group of the best players in European football every week.

Technically, the youngster seems to fit Emery’s style well.
Free on both sides, Mbaye likes to attack defenders directly, carries the ball confidently long distances and has the pace to stretch defensive lines.
He also works hard without possessions, a quality that appealed to Emery’s intellectual pursuits.
Of course, signing such a young player can be risky. Mbaye remains inexperienced at the highest level and is still developing the consistency expected of a regular starter.
However, his ceiling is incredibly high, and PSG’s reluctance to lose him shows how much he is respected within the club.
