Meet the New Blackhawks: Q&A With Sacha Boisvert – Hockey Writers – Chicago Blackhawks

With the Chicago Blackhawks’ regular season winding down and their final game on April 15, the excitement is focused on new opportunities to make his debut. It’s always fun to see prospects get their feet wet, and the Blackhawks had two prospects make their NHL debuts last month: Anton Frondell and Sacha Boisvert.

Boisvert was the Blackhawks’ first round pick in 2024 out of Boston University. His NHL debut was delayed due to visa issues, so even though he signed his entry-level contract on March 16, he made his Blackhawks debut on March 26 against the Philadelphia Flyers. He played a major role at fourth base in six games.

So, let’s get to know this 20-year-old striker better. Here’s a quick Q&A I had at practice on April 8th.

THW: You’ve Been Here Before For Boot Camps And Such. But What’s So Great About Chicago- Or Anything Special?

Boisvert: Well, that’s great. Like, a lot…not that I expected it not being nice, but nicer than I thought. Like, even at dev camp… I went on a cruise and everything, and it’s one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever seen. It’s amazing.”

“I love food too.”

THW: What Have You Made of Your NHL Experience So Far?

Boisvert: There is a lot. I mean, just being here for those few weeks. It was [very] it helps to see what the schedule is about, like practice, workouts, and all. Not just getting on the ice, but just, like, experiencing what it’s like to be a great player in the NHL.”

THW: What would you say is your greatest strength as an actor?

Boisvert: “I think about being versatile, I would say. Like, obviously I have a good shot and everything, but I think just being able to play physically or skillfully, to do everything on the ice, that’s where I think it’s fun.”

Head coach Jeff Blashill has been praising Boisvert’s shot, his body, and his toughness. He scored his first NHL goal against the Seattle Kraken on April 4. He also scored his first goal in his second NHL game against the New York Rangers.

THW: You have a boxing background. Do You Have a Favorite Boxer?

Boisvert: “It was Gennady Golovkin. Right now, I would say… (Oleksandr) Usyk.”

Boisvert’s father owns a taekwondo and boxing gym in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, and Boisvert had boxing matches as a child. (from ‘How boxing helped turn Blackhawks pick Sacha Boisvert into NHL Draft’s top player- The Athletic – 5/24/2024)

The NHL also sent out a “Meet Sacha Boisvert” tweet before the 2024 draft that said, “he’s enjoying boxing while training in the offseason.”

THW: What are you most looking forward to in your United Center debut?

Boisvert: I mean, just being part of the national anthem and everything. It will be very special. Guys used to tell me, like, just hang out here, and then, like, your first National Anthem, be over there. I’ve watched the game in the stands, but just sitting on the bench for the national anthem and seeing all those fans, it’s going to be great.”

Boisvert and the Blackhawks have been on a roll since signing his contract, and he was a healthy scratch in two recent home games against the Winnipeg Jets and Carolina Hurricanes, Blashill said before sitting out the rest of the game.

Therefore, Boisvert will get his first United Center before the end of the season, as the Blackhawks finish the season with three straight home games. Being on home ice will certainly give him and the fans a night to remember, as the young center is considered an important part of the Blackhawks’ future.
