Man Utd open talks to sign “young Sadio Mane” as upgrade for £42m Amad

In today’s game, many football teams have started to trust the youth to take them forward and produce goods – as seen in Manchester United in recent years.
The Red Devils academy has allowed many players to make the jump to the senior ranks, with the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Shea Lacey both playing at Old Trafford.
However, the managerial situation has also seen inexperienced options rewarded, with former first team member Michael Carrick given his first taste of Premier League management.
The decision to give the 44-year-old the job on a temporary basis was a surprise, as we can see from the impressive statistics of seven wins in his first ten games.
It remains to be seen whether he will be offered the job permanently, but the management appears to be continuing the trend of placing hope in youngsters ahead of the summer transfer window.
Man Utd enter talks to sign Bundesliga star
In recent weeks, United have been named as one of a number of Premier League clubs trying to complete a deal for RB Leipzig midfielder Yan Diomande this summer.
The Ivory Coast international played a major role in Germany during his debut campaign, as evidenced by his tally of 16 goals and an assist in his 27 outings.
However, the Red Devils are not alone in their pursuit of the 19-year-old, with Liverpool and Chelsea just two of the sides keeping tabs on his progress.
Despite interest in Diomande’s services, he is not the only talent in Germany’s top flight on the lookout, with Hoffenheim’s Bazoumana Toure one of the players being looked at.
According to CaughtOffside, the 20-year-old player has already been approached by INEOS in recent weeks, with the intention of possibly continuing in the off-season.
The report also claims that Liverpool and Arsenal have also made groundwork regarding a possible deal, but it is unclear whether his current club will approve the deal.
The German outfit have placed an asking price of 50 million euros (£42m) on the youngster’s head, with the Red Devils seeing him as a star with the ability to add more quality to the front line.
Why Toure would be better than United’s Amad
Spending big on an Ivory Coast youngster in Europe has not been seen at United in recent years, as seen with the £36m transfer of Amad Diallo from Atalanta back in January 2021.
After various loan spells at the likes of Rangers and Sunderland, the 23-year-old became a first-team regular in 2023, making 81 appearances over the past three years.
He has been featured in a variety of different roles, from a right winger to a deep-lying full-back role, often showing excellent versatility despite his young age.
However, despite registering 19 goals last season, the striker has struggled this campaign – after which he was unable to match the heights he had previously set for himself.
Amad currently sits on two goals and two assists from his 26 appearances in 2025/26, with Toure’s departure allowing the club to sign the star’s progression to the first team.
The transfer target has registered a combined 10 goals and assists in the Bundesliga this season, and his stats below show why he has improved on his compatriot.
The Hoffenheim star, dubbed a “young Sadio Mane” by journalist Bence Bocsak, has created 1.7 chances and completed 1.5 crosses out of 90 this campaign.

Although the aforementioned figures are both higher than the current United star, the comparison with the former Liverpool star shows his talent – with the Senegal star scoring 111 goals in the Premier League.
Toure has also completed 2.1 successful dribbles so far this term, doing so at a success rate of 45% – highlighting his excellent ability to get past the opposition.
Such statistics, combined with his chances created and successful crosses, would make him a great asset to the Red Devils – potentially giving the likes of Benjamin Sesko endless opportunities.
The Ivory Coast player’s skills in the Bundesliga are also reflected in his 5.1 in the opposition box per 90 and 1.7 aerials won – the latter placing him in the top 5% of Germany’s attackers.
£42m for a player of Toure’s caliber would be yet another excellent piece of business for the Red Devils, with the 20-year-old having bags of time to develop down the line.
Replacing Amad, given his contributions last season, would be an unfortunate decision, but in the end, his compatriot has more talent in 2025/26.
Competition for places is much needed if the club is to take the next step into the Premier League, and Toure has provided just that with a move to Old Trafford this summer.
