Harry Maguire and Phil Foden left out of England’s World Cup squad

The defender of Manchester United, Harry Maguire, said that he is not in Thomas Tuchel’s England team that will play in the World Cup this summer.

According to TalkSPORT, the 33-year-old centre-back has been left “twinned and shocked” by the decision despite an impressive season at Old Trafford.

Maguire has played a key role under interim manager Michael Carrick, helping United climb to third in the Premier League and secure the Champions League for the first time since 2023.

United have lost just twice in the league since January, and Maguire has been one of the most consistent players in defence.

Manchester City’s Phil Foden is also expected to be overlooked, while Noni Madueke may get the nod for the striker.

Maguire Responds to England Snub

The former Leicester captain took part in England’s internationals in March and featured in both previous World Cups.

However, it now looks like he will miss the 2026 tournament.

“I was confident that I could play a big role this summer for my country after the season I’ve had,” Maguire is reported to have told TalkSPORT.

“I am left shocked and disgusted by the decision. I wish the players the best.”

England will head to the World Cup aiming to win their first major title since 1966, with Tuchel’s side drawn in Group L with Croatia, Panama and Ghana.

Tuchel Explains Centre-Back Choices

Tuchel has previously pointed out that Maguire has beaten England’s defenders.

“I see Ezri Konsa up front, I see Marc Guehi up front. It’s no secret,” said Tuchel during the press conference.

“I see Trevoh Chalobah who is on the move was a bit ahead of him. And John Stones, but he was injured, so he needed to come to the camp.”

Foden is also scheduled to be released

At the height of England’s Euro 2024 run, many fans would have scoffed at the idea of Foden being left out of the World Cup squad two years later.

But the BBC reports that the 25-year-old will not be called up by Tuchel, after playing a pivotal role for City this season.

Pep Guardiola’s side missed out on the Premier League title, and Foden was used at times on the bench as City fell short.

Instead, it looks like Arsenal’s Noni Madueke could get the call up instead, just days after winning the title in North London.

Mainoo set the England Call-Up

While Maguire and Foden are reportedly set to miss out, there is better news for Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.

Reports say that the young player has secured a place in Tuchel’s squad for the World Cup after playing well in the second half of the season under Carrick.

Mainoo’s inclusion could come at the expense of Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, who has also been heavily linked with a call-up.
