Farke must sell the Leeds star who made only 4 passes

With the game heading into extra time at the end of 90 minutes, it looks like Leeds United vs. Brighton and Hove Albion will end in a 0-0 draw.

The game felt like an end-of-the-season Premier League encounter, with little left to play for any team in the top flight, as Elland Road was drenched in sunshine.

However, Dominic Calvert-Lewin had other ideas when he grabbed a surprise winner for Daniel Farke’s men at the death, as he capitalized on Jan Paul Van Hecke’s back pass, and Bart Verbruggen’s onrushing run, to net the winner in the 96th minute.

Up to 14 Premier League goals this season, the number nine has arguably been one of Leeds’ best performers all campaign, with other stars coming off the bench in their 1-0 win.

Leeds vs Brighton star players

Astonishingly, when Calvert-Lewin sneaked in to score this stunning finisher, this was Leeds’ first shot on target all game.

That sums up the former Everton man’s season, however, as he has the ability to come up with a moment of match-winning quality, even if he has been on the sidelines for the whole game.

Alongside Calvert-Lewin, who ended his unforgettable season at Elland Road with another important strike, Ethan Ampadu stood out again as Leeds’ engine in the middle of the park, as the Whites captain never got tired during the game, winning four tackles and duels and completing 32 accurate passes in the process.

Leeds also had to stand firm against waves of Brighton pressure throughout, and a well-deserved clean sheet would come courtesy of Jaka Bijol putting up a solid and solid defence, as the Slovenian blocked a late shot to deny the Seagulls.

Karl Darlow continued his return to the Leeds first team with a memorable performance between the sticks, amassing seven points in total, to ensure a 1-0 victory.

There was also an emotional moment late in the game when Sam Byram was given a late exit, and it was widely expected that the long-time Whites employee would leave his boyhood club at the end of the season.

He is unlikely to be the only one to leave in the summer, with Leeds likely to wave goodbye to another long-serving member of staff, who put in a poor overall display against the South Coast visitors.

Leeds must finally sell the 13-touch star

It feels like a long time coming, but this summer could finally be the right time to offload Wilfried Gnonto.

The Italian striker was once regarded as a powerful livewire for the Whites who could conjure up moments of magic out of nothing, with two goals and four assists coming in his first season in the Premier League.

Now, however, he feels like a tired relic in West Yorkshire, with the likes of Noah Okafor pushing for the first team, and he offered too little when he was brought on for Sunday afternoon to suggest he should be retained, beyond this summer.

Indeed, in a memorable 30-minute outing, the former FC Zurich youngster managed just 13 touches of the ball, resulting in just four accurate passes being collected.

Registering just one shot on target, too, Calvert-Lewin thankfully stepped up as Leeds’ latest hero while Gnonto faltered, with the overwhelming feeling at Elland Road now, when it comes to the 22-year-old, that he may have overstayed his welcome.

Often used as a substitute for Farke, he has failed to score a single Premier League goal this season, as we head into the final matchday next weekend.

With Bundesliga side Freiburg reportedly keen to sign the Italian, now may be the time to part ways, before he goes too far at the back.

It will be a sad ending to the relationship, as Gnonto played a part in Leeds’ happy promotion last season.

But, with the Whites also hinting that they are open to a sale, it looks like the West Yorkshire giants will be parting ways with the young striker in the near future, as the club make further changes after a comfortable defensive back.
