Chelsea are making a move to sign Liverpool’s “disagreeable” star via Slot
Chelsea have been linked with a contract for Liverpool star Curtis Jones, following suggestions that the midfielder has fallen out with manager Arne Slot.
Jones has not been high in Slot’s thinking this season, often used as a late substitute in the Premier League, and there are doubts over his long-term future at Anfield, with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2027.
Jermaine Pennant suggested the midfielder had a strained relationship with Slot, adding fuel to the fire, he said after being linked with a move in January.
“For me, with the interest from Tottenham, his contract with Inter Milan, his commitment and Slot.
“I think there was a bit of a tiff and disagreement.”
Blues looked for Jones after Rosenior sent a message to Enzo
Liam Rosenior has his own problems to deal with in midfield, with the manager making the bold decision to drop Enzo Fernandez for the 7-0 FA Cup win at Port Vale and the 3-0 defeat at Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.
Even before the match, Chris Sutton was critical of Rosenior’s handling of Enzo’s controversial Madrid comments, saying leaving him out was a “senseless” decision.
It remains to be seen whether Rosenior’s approach affects the Argentine’s long-term future at Stamford Bridge, but the Blues are now on the lookout for a new midfielder, with a report from Anfield Watch revealing that they have made contact with a deal for Jones.
Manchester City and Newcastle United have taken a similar approach, with interest in the England midfielder, as he enters the final year of his Liverpool contract.
There have been very few reports suggesting the 25-year-old is on the verge of a new deal, suggesting the door could be open for Chelsea to come in, and he could be a solid signing, once hailed as “outstanding” by Slot.
The England international, who has six caps and has extensive Premier League experience, has made 147 appearances in the competition, and is averaging 70.9 in 90 passes this season, more than any other Liverpool player.
Rosenior’s job may be safe despite Man City’s defeat
Perhaps there were mixed feelings ahead of Sunday’s game against Man City, with Rory Jennings making it clear that he wants Chelsea to lose, to prevent Arsenal’s chances of winning the Premier League title.
However, the manner in which the defeat will take place will have an impact, as the Blues failed to put up much of a fight during the 3-0 defeat, which was their fifth defeat in their last six games.
Champions League qualification now looks unlikely, with Chelsea four points behind Liverpool in fifth, but Rosenior’s job may be safe regardless.
This is according to David Ornstein, who said: “As far as I know they don’t intend to review the coaching position until early summer 2027. At the end of his first full season so did Pochettino and Maresca.”
Chelsea are now determined to appoint a manager who has won the title 3-4-2-1 Man City wants to replace Pep.
Liam Rosenior’s future appears to be in doubt.
