Newcastle have entered the race to sign the “beast” of the Premier League

Newcastle United are now keen to sign a Premier League rival, who could replace Sandro Tonali this summer.

Newcastle are dealing with concerns about Sandro Tonali

It looks like it’s going to be a long summer for the Magpies. Rumors are already surrounding the future of Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes after a disappointing season, which could lead to disastrous results.

Tonali shows some concern. The Italian is reportedly at the top of Manchester United’s shortlist for a midfielder this summer and could be one of the players looking for Champions League football.

Chief executive David Hopkinson recently had his say on any potential move, telling reporters: “I wasn’t there because of Isak’s condition, so I don’t want to comment on something I didn’t see personally. What I know is that the players who leave this team will have to do so on our terms.”

As Alexander Isak showed last season, it is not always as easy as it sounds for the club to hold a player according to their terms. If Tonali wants out, the last thing the Magpies need is another summer saga.

Furthermore, replacing the midfielder is likely to be as difficult as replacing Isak – especially if Newcastle miss out on European football.

Meanwhile, Lamine Camara is one name that has been mentioned as a possible target in recent weeks. The AS Monaco star has been excellent in France and would be an excellent option.

However, he is not the only player on the Magpies’ shortlist. Alongside Camara, those at St James’ Park are also eyeing a Premier League opponent.

Newcastle are targeting Manuel Ugarte

As reported by Caught Offside, Newcastle are now looking to move Manuel Ugarte, who wants to leave Man United this summer.

Newcastle United have a big summer ahead of them, especially if they are to reach the next level.

Of course, given United’s interest in Tonali, Ugarte may be more than enough for Old Trafford this summer. That should allow Newcastle to secure a deal of their own – perhaps including part of Tonali’s transfer.

Although the £120,000-a-week star has struggled at Man United, he would not be the first player to find his best form away from the club. What is Old Trafford’s trash can quickly become Tyneside’s treasure.

On a technical level, Ugarte is a step below Tonali. But by keeping Guimaraes, Newcastle will only need to focus on welcoming a combative player and that is exactly where the Uruguay international can thrive.

A “defensive beast”, as Statman Dave has dubbed him, the Tyneside side must make the most of Ugarte’s status to welcome Eddie Howe’s much-needed midfield reinforcements this summer.
