Aston Villa join the race to sign their new signing Morgan Rogers

Aston Villa look to be in a good place in the Premier League, as Unai Emery’s men look to strengthen their grip on a coveted top four spot.
Indeed, it was a huge win for the West Midlands giants last week, as they comfortably beat West Ham United 2-0 before the international break, as it means they have now opened up a massive four-point gap between themselves and Arne Slot’s rocky Liverpool in fifth place.
There will be many twists and turns ahead, no doubt, as the Premier League is an unpredictable league, with Villa prone to slip ups here and there, too.
Hopefully, though, when all is said and done, a Champions League place can be successfully secured as Emery and Co then plan their summer transfer business.
Aston Villa join the race to sign a Premier League star
The biggest talk of the town at the moment involving Villa’s summer job is the potential sale of Morgan Rogers to Premier League rivals.
Thought to cost around £100m in the region, which is the same amount Villa spent Jack Grealish selling to Manchester City, it will be interesting to see if the likes of Manchester United or Arsenal are willing to spend this amount on the England sensation.
Aston Villa’s most expensive sale of all time
Looking at Aston Villa’s record departure.
Reports seem to suggest that the Villans are eyeing a midfield signing, surprisingly, with Football Insider revealing that Emery’s men are looking at Everton battler James Garner among other targets.
There could be a race for Rogers’ Three Lions in the summer, with Football Insider previously revealing that Nottingham Forest are also interested in the 25-year-old, who has been on loan at the City Ground.
While he doesn’t match Villa’s sought-after number 27, in terms of a bold forward presence, Emery and Co could secure themselves another Rogers-style contract if they successfully poach Garner.
Why Garner could be Rogers 2.0 at Aston Villa
Rogers has had to endure his time in the spotlight.
His Premier League debut would not happen until he was 21 years old, as he was never offered this high of a chance on the books of Manchester City.
It’s true he hasn’t looked back since, with 36 Premier League goals now to his name, leading to him being declared an “unstoppable” threat on his day, by Sky Sports’ Jamie Carragher.
Garner has had to take a spectacular route, too, to get to where he is today, with only seven top-flight chances coming to the Red Devils before he bids farewell to Old Trafford for good in 2022, after a loan spell at Forest.
At Everton, the energetic 25-year-old managed to turn into a real star of the Premier League, just like Rogers. Now a solid midfield stalwart, he has won 4.9 balls per game in the Premier League this season, that hard work backed up by his 5.2 duels per game.
To add context, Amadou Onana – who has been dubbed “world class” at Villa Park by Premier League commentator Raj Chohan – has only won five duels per game, while Garner is poised to be taken to that next level in the West Midlands, as is Rogers.

He has become an influential source of goals and assists, too, with two goals and six assists in his back pocket this season for the Toffees who are serious about the league, leading David Moyes to declare the two-time England international “one of the best in the Premier League.”
With the international break and seeing him complete four crucial passes for Thomas Tuchel’s men against Uruguay, along with winning six duels, to show his versatile game, it is clear that Garner could be another £100m talent for Villa, just like Rogers’ incredible rise.
Emery and Co will have a battle on their hands to try and land the rising star, but it looks like the battle will have to end if Garner becomes the hero of Rogers’ form at Villa Park.
