Real Madrid are yet to sign Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez and are ‘not willing to do so’.
Real Madrid have denied they are interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández and say such rumors are “unnecessarily damaging to the organizations and the player involved”.
Reports in the UK and Spain suggested the Argentine international was high on Jose Mourinho’s wish list and that talks had begun over a summer move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
But the 15-year-old European champions took the unusual decision to publicly criticize the proposals this morning with a statement that made it clear that Fernandez was not part of their plans.
Real Madrid have ‘no intention’ of signing Enzo Fernandez
It reads as follows: “In light of the reports and statements that have appeared in recent days regarding Real Madrid CF’s alleged interest in the player Enzo Fernández, the club wishes to state that it has made no attempt, direct or indirect, to sign the aforementioned player and, likewise, has no intention of doing so.
“Real Madrid wishes to express its great respect for Enzo Fernández, a footballer whose work and quality is widely known, and Chelsea FC, a club with which he maintains a very good relationship.
“Certainly out of respect for an organization like Chelsea FC and due to the principles of institutional integrity that have always governed the actions of Real Madrid, the club considers it necessary to completely deny the unfounded and unfounded speculation.
“Real Madrid regrets that, despite the clarity of the facts and the lack of any action on the part of the club, information continues to be circulated that is not true and contributes to creating confusion among fans and unnecessarily damaging the organizations and people involved.”
Fernandez’s agent continues to talk about a move to Madrid
Fernandez was suspended for two games by Chelsea in April after saying, “I like Madrid a lot because it’s very similar to Buenos Aires,” on Argentine TV show Nadie Dice Nada.
And in recent days, the player’s agent Javier Pastore has also suggested that his client wishes to move to the Spanish capital.
“At the moment, the player is still focused on the national team calmly,” Pastore told the media. “He is playing in the World Cup and it is close to reaching the round of 16.
“He is only thinking about that, while we are looking at options for him to leave Chelsea, but nothing is certain or confirmed at any club.”
On Real Madrid specifically, Pastore said: “He has many friends there [at Real Madrid]and is very close to Julian Alvarez [who plays for Atletico].
“In fact, whenever they can, they spend time together.
“And I live in Madrid and, every time he visits, he has been coming to see me and fix work issues, but besides that: who doesn’t love Madrid?
“I have never played in Madrid … but I live there.”
Fernandez, 25, joined Chelsea for a then British record fee of £107 million from Benfica in January 2023. He is expected to be in Argentina’s XI when the defending champions face Cape Verde at the World Cup tonight.
