Newcastle could see a bid accepted for the £25m star

Newcastle United are wasting no time in their pursuit of Englishman Anthony Gordon, who left the club last month.

The Magpies have sold the former Everton star to Spanish giants Barcelona for £70m, and are now looking to LaLiga to find a replacement.

The club are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Osasuna midfielder Victor Munoz, a move worth £35m including add-ons, which is part of the money they bought Gordon.

Eddie Howe’s team has already made plans for the star, 22, to be tested in the USA during the World Cup with the Spanish national team.

This means the Magpies could find a replacement for Gordon early on, and they won’t panic in the final weeks.

Newcastle United have learned the asking price of a Premier League target

It is a risky move for Newcastle, however, as Munoz has produced just six goals and two assists in LaLiga in the 2025/26 campaign and there is no guarantee that he will be able to adapt to the Premier League and deliver week in week out in English football.

That’s why the club should also be looking to bring in proven players to England, and a new update on one of their domestic targets has revealed how much they need to pay for a new defender.

According to TEAMtalk, Leeds United are open to making a move for defender Pascal Struijk when the summer transfer window opens.

The report claims that the Whites are valuing the Holland defender for up to £25m, as he still has one year left on his contract at Elland Road, showing just how much interested parties will offer to see his bid accepted.

The TEAMtalk report does not mention Newcastle, but it was reported elsewhere earlier this summer that the Magpies are eyeing a star left-back to strengthen their squad.

Now, PIF know they have to get over the £25m offer if they want to secure a deal to bring Struijk to St. James’ Park in the coming weeks.

Why Pascal Struijk would be a better signing for Newcastle than Victor Munoz

The Dutchman will cost £10m less than Munoz, who is set to arrive for £35m, yet could be the Magpies’ best signing ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Unlike the Spain international, Struijk is a proven player in the Premier League and can easily strike, as he knows the league and what it takes to deliver week in week out in English football.

The 26-year-old started 33 of Leeds’ 34 top-flight games and produced more impressive performances in the division than Howe’s left-back Dan Burn.

The Dutchman is eight years younger than Burn and is in the prime of his career, meaning he could end up in St. James’ Park as a complete player instead of an England player.

Their different defensive stats in the Premier League this season suggest that the Leeds star will be a better fit for Howe at the back, as he has provided more in a number of defensive metrics.

Struijk has also completed 88% of his attempted passes in the division, compared to Burn’s 79% success rate, and can offer much more to the team in possession if he plays at the back.

Therefore, Newcastle should pay the £25m asking price for the left-footed star because he will come as a complete defensive upgrade as a proven Premier League player who can come in and hit the ground running.

It is also why he will be a better signing than Munoz, whose attacking numbers in LaLiga do not suggest he will be an immediate better than Gordon, who also scored six goals and provided two assists in the Premier League.

The Spaniard is also unproven in the Premier League, has no previous experience in England, and will not be a ‘guaranteed’ success like Struijk would be, given his spell in West Yorkshire.

It is now up to the board to put £25m on the table for Leeds to accept, taking advantage of his contract situation to secure a potential transfer this summer.
