The £70m England star now wants to join Man United

The signing of Ederson was a must, everyone at Manchester United knows that.
Casemiro, while officially a United player, won’t be one for long. He will be leaving in the coming weeks. The imminent departure of Manuel Ugarte has also increased the need to sign several midfielders.
Ederson is the first to arrive and you can expect two or three more. Elliot Anderson is being closely watched but is expected to join rivals Manchester City.
West Ham star Mateus Fernandes is also on their radar, as is Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton. You’d think that whoever joins next will be a bigger player than the Brazilian midfielder.
Coming from Atalanta for around £39m, this sounds like a relative bargain in a world of inflated transfer fees.
That said, the midfielder is not the only topic we are talking about for the Red Devils.
Big-money English star is open to joining Man Utd
United seem to have changed their recruitment strategy last year. They are tired of buying abroad where players like Antony, Jadon Sancho, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have been the ones who have stood out in recent years.
Of course, Senne Lammens and Benjamin Sesko were not poor by any stretch of the imagination after arriving last summer but in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, they welcomed two proven Premier League players who hit the ground running quickly.
They are looking to repeat that strategy this summer, which explains links to the likes of Anderson, Fernandes, Wharton, Alex Scott and Carlos Baleba.
It’s a strategy that dates back to the days of Sir Alex Ferguson. During his time at Old Trafford, the Scot often raided the top flight for his best players. See Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Robin van Persie as three great examples.

Well, United are not only looking at those five midfielders. Indeed, in an attempt to strengthen the defense, Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall is on their radar.
This is according to TEAMtalk who revealed that United are showing a strong interest in the left-back. Hall is said to be keen on a move to Michael Carrick’s side. The idea of playing Champions League football after Newcastle miss out on continental competition in 2026/27 is very appealing to him.
It is said that United have already made positive changes for the player as they intend to build a relationship with his representatives.
Any deal won’t come cheap with previous reports putting the price at around £70m.
Why Hall would be a better signing than Ederson
United needed a midfielder this summer and they got him. It was really important that they did it.
In the form of Ederson, they signed “the most powerful midfielder in the world” according to Italian content creator Damiano Coccia. He’s an underrated character and at £39m, it’s a bargain considering some of the fees quoted by Anderson, Baleba and Co.
That said, was it the marquee signing that the fans wanted, that they were looking forward to? Absolutely not.
Of course, United have thrown a lot of money in the past and it hasn’t gone very well but when you do that for a Premier League player, it negates the risk. It explains why Anderson was bought for £100m and why Fernandes was snapped up for £80m.
On a day of rash spending, Jason Wilcox and Co did well to sign Ederson. That said, there is a feeling that even though he played in a different position, Hall would be a much better signing here.
Realistically, signing players at both positions is a must, but with Hall, there is very little chance that this move will go badly. With Ederson, United fans fear that this could be a repeat of Ugarte, especially if he starts week in, week out.
The problems of this team when it comes to signing international players are well documented but with Hall, they can repeat the strategy of Mbeumo and Cunha that has been over a year.
So, why would the Newcastle man be such a good signing? However, Luke Shaw is not getting any younger and despite playing all 38 league games for the first time in his Old Trafford career in 2025/26, he will now have European football to compete for. It is impossible for him to play every single game again.
Carrick needs to compete with Shaw and more importantly, he actually needs to improve. The Hall will give you just that.
A midfielder by trade, the 21-year-old rose to prominence at left-back at St James’ Park and after leaving Chelsea, was declared “one of the best full-backs in the Premier League” by journalist Steven Railston.

The young defender is extremely defensive on the ball. He ranks in the top 8% of left backs in Europe’s top five leagues for driving efficiency per 90 minutes.
In that respect the England player is much better than Shaw. Since it has more power, it tends to go downhill, making more continuous carries per 90 than the Shaw.
While a full-back should always be judged on his ability to defend first and foremost, Hall’s more threatening value could give United a night against Shaw. He makes a lot of key passes and takes a lot of shots.
That said, the Toon star is no defensive mess. He got nearly three more balls in 90 in 2025/26.
When all is said and done at the end of the summer, when Hall’s move is complete, he will certainly be considered a better and more exciting player than Ederson.
The Brazilian is a necessity but he will not change completely. However, Hall has the potential to really elevate this team. He is only 21 years old, he has a bright future in this game.
