Leeds are entering a huge race to sign an “outstanding” star with a decision imminent

Leeds United are now looking to start their summer business by signing wanted midfielder Daniel Farke.

Leeds have targeted a midfielder

Paraag Marathe may have acknowledged SCR’s concerns at the end of the season, but that doesn’t mean Leeds will go into the summer without a signing.

The Yorkshire club, backed by the 49ers, will be aiming to recruit with the same intelligence as last summer, when Anton Stach, Noah Okafor, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and others arrived.

Just who could come to Elland Road is the question everyone is asking ahead of the transfer window. If the latest rumors are anything to go by, then Harvey Elliott and PSV Eindhoven’s Mauro Junior could be two names to watch.

Elliott is particularly interesting. The Liverpool midfielder returned to Anfield following a disastrous loan spell at Aston Villa, where his game time was limited as the Villans looked to avoid creating a permanent deal. If anyone needs a chance at consistent minutes, it’s the 23-year-old.

It’s not just Elliott on White’s radar, though. According to Africa Foot, Leeds are in the race to sign Antoine Sekongo from USL Dunkerque this summer.

They are joined by Hull City, Lille, Toulouse FC, FC Lorient, Stade Rennais, AS Saint-Etienne and Samsunspor as the battle rages for the midfielder.

At 21 years of age, Sekongo is ready to play in the top flight after impressing in Ligue 2 and he could find that if Leeds turn their interest into a significant offer.

His arrival would give Farke a young midfielder to replace Ao Tanaka if he decides to leave in the coming months. Recent rumors have revealed that the future of the Japanese player is in doubt, although the situation is strong at the end of the campaign.

The “prominent” Sekongo can replace Tanaka

While some will be quick to point out that Sekongo has yet to fully enjoy the experience of moving to the top flight, it wasn’t long ago that Leeds snapped up Tanaka in Germany’s second division.

Now, with Sekongo expected to make a decision on his future, those at Elland Road could unearth yet another gem to replace their current star.

Dubbed “outstanding” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, Sekongo would add an extra scoring threat to Farke’s midfield without the cost of defensive weaknesses.

The 21-year-old has scored nine goals in all competitions this season and assisted a further four. Outside of football, he also won five duels in each game – highlighting that he is a complete player.

It won’t be an easy race to win, but Leeds should try to jump ahead of other sides to secure Sekongo’s signature.
