The Ligue 1 club are desperately trying to stop Everton from signing a “different” star.

Everton are now showing a strong interest in signing the “special” Ligue 1 midfielder, who are keen to bring in new faces in the middle of the park this summer.

David Moyes wants a “huge” summer transfer window

The Toffees’ form slipped towards the end of the Premier League season, enduring a seven-match winless run, and David Moyes suggested a lack of depth was to blame, increasing the need for reinforcements in the upcoming window.

Moyes says: “We need a big summer again as a football club. We need to have a big summer where we can build. We’re showing that it doesn’t take much. It just takes a few of your best players to lose a bit of form, and it can quickly change your results and how you perform.”

There have been suggestions that the Scot does not need to bring in a new midfielder this summer, as he is already full in that area of the pitch.

Scout Tom Long says: “Thought of the day: I’m not sure Everton really need another midfielder right now. Pairing Dewsbury-Hall with Garner, and Armstrong and Iroegbunam as options, already provides balance and strength. For me, the biggest missing piece seems to be a real No.10.”

However, the Merseysiders are now targeting the Ligue 1 star.

Everton are serious about signing a “special” midfielder

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Everton are now showing a strong interest in signing Lille midfielder Ngal’ayel Mukau, and have already carried out detailed checks, with Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Brentford and Brighton also interested.

However, Makau still has a contract with the French club until 2028, and they want to keep him, as they have just qualified for the Champions League next season from third place in Ligue 1.

The 21-year-old, who is set to go to the World Cup with DR Congo, can play a deep midfield role, and has been hailed as “exceptional” by midfielder Antonio Mango.

About Ayel Mukau

The youngster has been a key player for Lille throughout the campaign, playing 30 games in Ligue 1, and scoring in the final third averaging 0.8 times in 90, which is the third highest in the club.

That said, the Lille star is yet to be confirmed in England, while Everton are also keen to sign Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney, who recently won the player of the season award after scoring five goals and providing eight assists in 38 games.

Therefore, if Moyes feels the need to strengthen the midfield, Hackney could be the most suitable player, but targets have been identified in many other areas.
