Newcastle are discussing a move to sign the £25m star

Newcastle United are still hurt by Thomas Tuchel’s decision to leave Lewis Hall out of England’s World Cup squad, and the Three Lions boss may have overlooked the quality of the player in Eddie Howe.
At least he will be rested for the new campaign, and he will rest from the previous success for the Magpies this year. Newcastle have not been in the running this year, as they could end up sitting in the bottom of the Premier League next year.

Howe has done wonders over the last few years, but Hall’s exclusion is a reflection of how United have fallen this season. They need to get back into the limelight, but they will have to do so without Anthony Gordon, who appears to be on his way out.
How Newcastle plan to replace Gordon
Gordon has been included in the England squad, and since he will be playing, he expects to be seen running under Tuchel.
It could be Gordon’s last game as a registered Newcastle player, with Bayern Munich believed to be closing in on a £75m deal.
It should go without saying that Newcastle will need new parts in attack. They need a striker, and more than that, someone to fill Gordon’s place directly. We will not have a repeat of the tragedy of Alexander Isak.
Well, according to journalist Craig Hope, Newcastle are discussing a move for LOSC Lille winger Matias Fernandez-Pardo, who is seen as the perfect replacement for Gordon on the left wing.
Priced at €30m (£25m) with Borussia Dortmund again chasing the Belgian striker, after questioning early on, Newcastle need to make a quick decision – something that has proved difficult throughout the 2025 summer window.
Why Fernandez-Pardo could replace Gordon at Newcastle
Newcastle writer Pete Davey noted that Fernandez-Pardo is “Gordon’s happy medium”, someone who gets fans out of their seats and makes things happen in the final third.
He is no longer a finished subject, but the Belgian talent, who was called up to the Red Devils’ World Cup squad, enjoyed a great season with Lille in Ligue 1, who are strong but aggressive and willing to face opponents. For that, he has the right skills to dance on the floor of Gordon’s station.

Gordon will be a big miss, for sure. Talented and tough in equal measure, she is willing to accept her important role in Howe’s plan and lead in the void left by Isak.
But there has long been a sense that the Liverpool-born player will eventually move on, not spend the rest of his days playing under the lights of St. James’ Park.
That’s right. He has given so much to the Howe project, and there is a good chance that he will succeed, if they bring in a suitable successor.
Fernandez-Pardo could be that man. He may be young and inexperienced, but he is already making waves in the Bundesliga, with his versatility and striking ability endearing him to Toon management.
A unique and talented runner who is comfortable across the front line, in good form, gets into a lot of promising positions and makes things happen. He is yet to show his clinical contribution, but there is no question that the many chances he gets in the danger zone show his strength in front of goal.
He has a lot in his locker, and that will only be sharpened over the next few years. Bright and quick with great energy backed up by a hard-to-find drive, Fernandez-Pardo is the one who has done the real job, with the power to not only replace Gordon but eventually overtake the England international under Howe’s wing on Tyneside.
