Additional FanGraph Simulation Features: Historical Players, Park Items and more!
As you may recall, last month we released the FanGraphs Baseball Simulator as part of FanGraphs Lab. A few days later, we added a feature that benefits the home field.
However, we are back with more features!
Historical Players, Marcel Projections, and Season Statistics
Now you can choose any player from all of baseball history to get your simulation. Want the results of Babe Ruth’s 1923 season on your sim? It’s not a problem! Looking for the 1999 version of Pedro Martínez on the mound? You can do that too!
For sims featuring historical players, you can choose Season Stats or Marcel’s predictions. Seasonal stats use impact ratios (BB/PA, K/PA, etc) based on player stats for that particular season. If you select the Marcel projection option, the Simulator will use a projection that includes the selected season’s data (combined Marcel’s projections for the entire season). For example, if you select Ruth’s 1923 season with Marcel’s forecast, it will use his 1924 season forecast.

Now you can start the game in any game mode you like. You can also pre-fill the simulation at any point in the finished game using the gameplay logs. The simulator will fill in the lineups and pitchers at that point in the game, as well as any future pitchers who appear in the game:
Park Factors
The Simulator now has park factor sliders, which are automatically set to the home team of your choice and can be adjusted to your liking.
Weather Conditions
You can now add in weather features, which are preset for each game based on the weather at a particular park and how much the current forecast deviates from those average weather conditions. You can also choose your climate settings, and the Simulator will calculate multipliers based on a 70°F, 100 m, 1000 hPa, 60% humidity reference area.
League Ratings
You can set the nature of the league to a specific year, which will affect the odds ratio calculation for batter/pitcher matchups.
My Sims
If you’re a FanGraphs member, you can see a list of all the sims you’ve recently used and go back to saved results from those sims.
