Chelsea are in contact with Xabi Alonso as Liverpool face a major crisis
Xabi Alonso has emerged as a leading contender to take over at Chelsea according to the latest from reliable journalist Ben Jacobs.
Chelsea began the 2025/26 season with Enzo Maresca in charge, but inconsistent performances saw the Blues boss make an early managerial change, bringing in Liam Rosenior midway through the campaign.

However, Rosenior’s spell at Stamford Bridge proved even more disappointing.
In typical Chelsea fashion under BlueCo, the club acted swiftly and sacked Rosenior, with Callum McFarlane stepping in as interim manager while an investigation into a permanent appointment continued ahead of the summer.

However, Xabi Alonso, who was sacked by Real Madrid at the start of the season, has emerged as the ‘leading contender’ for the role.
According to Ben Jacobs, the Spaniard is open to a job in the Premier League.
Chelsea want to appoint a new manager before the start of the World Cup and have already made contact with Alonso.
There are other managers being considered as well including Fulham boss Marco Silva and Oliver Glasner.
Taking it to XJacobs stated:
“Know that Chelsea hope to appoint a replacement for Liam Rosenior before the World Cup starts. Xabi Alonso is a top player and Chelsea have been in contact with the former manager of Real Madrid and Leverkusen.
“Alonso is keen on a Premier League job this summer. Fulham’s Marco Silva and outgoing Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola both remain on the list. Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner and ex-Flamengo coach Filipe Luis are new names being considered…
“Luis was the name that Chelsea discussed before appointing Rosenior and the discussions finally focused on a change in Strasbourg before the appointment of Gary O’Neil.”

Alonso joining Chelsea would be a mistake for Liverpool
Alonso’s move to Stamford Bridge could also be a major setback for Liverpool.
