A Star Ranger who passed 40% must not restart

Glasgow Rangers officially lost their hopes of the title when they were beaten by their rivals 3-1 in their 36th game in the Scottish Premiership campaign.

The Gers had a slim chance going into the final three games of the season after Hearts were held 1-1 by Motherwell, but their defeat at Celtic officially put them out of the race.

Danny Rohl’s will have to watch as one of the two teams in front of them wins the title, after losing to both of them in the last two games.

Mike Moore scored his second goal for Rangers at Parkhead this season to put the Gers ahead and was one of the few players to leave the game with his head held high.

On the other hand, however, Oliver Antman failed to show that he deserves more minutes going forward in a Gers shirt after a disappointing performance.

Why Danny Rohl didn’t do well with Oliver Antman

Before the game started, Rohl revealed that the Finnish player was chosen to start on the right because “he is there It’s very smart in the “tactical” part of the game, suggesting it was a defensive choice.

In that, Antman does his job. He won three of four contests and his only aerial battle of the game, without committing any errors, and provided James Tavernier with defensive support. Rohl found that decision to be reasonable, however, because the former Go Ahead Eagles player did not contribute anything to the team on the other side of the field, even though he started on the right side.

Antman played 59 minutes without registering a single shot or a key in the final third of the Light Blues, showing that he did not have any impact on the game.

So Rohl made a mistake because the inclusion of a defender in the team contributed to the team’s failure to score the second goal, which allowed Celtic to get back into the game and eventually win all the points.

Antman wasn’t the only player to struggle on the field for the Scottish giants, however, another Rangers flop was even worse.

Worse than Oliver Antman: The Rangers man should never start again

James Tavernier will leave when his contract expires this summer and the defeat to Celtic should be the last time he wears a Gers shirt after his performance on Sunday.

The Light Blues captain should be benched for the final two games of the season and given a proper celebration of his time at the club in the final game.

He shouldn’t start any games, though, because Dujon Sterling will be with the Rangers next season and should be given a chance to show that he can be the main man in that forward role.

Tavernier was worse than Antman in the Hoops defeat because he completed the lowest percentage of his passes, gave the ball away with every other touch, and won fewer duels than the winger ahead of him in the team.

The long-serving Rangers captain caught a simple pass over the top of the defense as Kieran Tierney raced in to cross for Daizen Maeda’s first goal and Celtic’s second.

Tavernier’s waste of the ball has been an issue throughout the campaign. He has lost the ball 626 times and assisted just four goals in 25 Premiership starts this season, averaging an assist every 157 balls.

With the title race over and the defender’s career at Ibrox coming to an end, Rohl had to leave him out of the starting line-up for the final two games, making the defeat to Celtic his last start.

Tavernier will be disappointed to end his Gers career without a trophy this season, but it shows that he has chosen the right time to call time on his long career in Glasgow.
