NHL Rumors: Toronto Maple Leafs, and Winnipeg Jets

Semyon Der-Arguchintsev is looking to return to the Toronto Maple Leafs organization

Daria Tuboltseva of R.org: The agent, Shumi Babaev, said that Semyon Der-Arguchintsev is considering a possible return to the Toronto Maple Leafs organization next season, after spending the last two seasons in the KHL.

Babaev said they have spoken with former Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving about a possible return, and now they will have to wait until a new GM is announced. Der-Arguchintsev’s KHL contract expires on May 31, and there have been no talks with Dynamo yet. He had six goals and 30 assists in 59 games this past season.

“I believe that Semyon is ready for the NHL. Yes, he should be ready to possibly play in the AHL, but there is no need to go there for that. We are talking about a one-way contract with a salary close to the league minimum.”

It leads to an exciting offseason for the Winnipeg Jets

Murat Ates of Athletic: The Winnipeg Jets currently hold the No. 7 pick in the draft. They shouldn’t be looking to flip that second-line center pick or Dustin Byfuglien next. Building quality talent and keeping them is what they need to do. Right fielders Keaton Verhoeff and Daxon Rudolph, and center Tynan Lawrence or Caleb Malhotra could be available if they choose.

They are likely to remove a top young player’s choice on an entry level or RFA contract. If they can find and sign someone like Leo Carlsson (Ducks) or Jason Robertson (Stars), it would make sense to move the pick.

The Jets have the Buffalo Sabres’ 2027 second-round pick, and stacking that with a good prospect might not be enough to land a good second-line center. It might be enough to get a second baseman if you include Brad Lambert, Nikita Chibrikov, Colby Barlow or Sascha Boumedienne.

What if the Jets were looking to trade goaltender Connor Hellebuyck? You’d think they’d be able to get a top-four defenseman or a second-line center. There’s really no comparison to trading someone like Hellebuyck. Would the Florida Panthers be willing to give up Anton Lundell and the No. 8 pick?

What if the Jets look to trade Kyle Connor? You have a full no-nonsense clause. Can the Jets use Matthew Tkachuk for Jonathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weegar as a com? Not that Connor is in Mikko Rantanen’s place, but the Avs got Martin Necas and Jack Drury for Rantanen (a pending UFA at the time) from the Hurricanes, who later traded Rantanen for Logan Stankoven, two firsts and two third-round picks.

What if the Jets look to trade Josh Morrissey or Mark Scheifele? It’s hard to see or help them now, as that seems to be the No. 1 C/D to a potential No. 1 C/D

It’s hard to see the Jets looking forward to trading Hellebuyck, Connor, Morrissey, or Scheifele. It would be a bad idea to do it unless it makes the team better, which is not easy to see.
