The Premier League is responding to the row between West Ham and Everton as the video sparks a backlash

The Premier League responded with a controversial incident as West Ham beat Everton 2-1 in the battle to avoid relegation.
West Ham beat Everton as Nuno wins the Premier League
Callum Wilson had the last word.
Coming off the bench with 15 minutes remaining and a point on the cards, the veteran striker headed home in the second minute of stoppage time to give West Ham a 2-1 win that was vital in their relegation outlook, but leaves Everton now very busy chasing Europe.
The afternoon had all the signs of survival of the six senses.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s West Ham were in serious danger and they knew it, with Nottingham Forest’s big win over Sunderland last evening putting further pressure on a team that arrived at the London Stadium just above the relegation zone.
Tomas Soucek, who has been linked with Everton in the summer, broke the deadlock shortly after the break, heading home Jarrod Bowen’s corner to give the hosts the lead they had been trying to defend.
It almost cost them.
Everton – who arrived with their European ambitions still alive, sitting three points off the top six – rose to the occasion and were eventually rewarded when Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s well-timed volley was headed in by James Tarkowski in the 88th minute to level.
West Ham are ‘preparing a transfer offer’ for Arsenal target Carlos Baleba
He could be a cheap option for Nuno in the event of a move down.
Meanwhile, the London Stadium fell silent, as Spurs won against Wolves. A draw would have put West Ham in the bottom three on goal difference.
But before that equaliser, there was a moment of great controversy that dominated one of the post-match discussions, and understandably so from Everton’s point of view.
The Premier League has responded after the Mateus Fernandes handball controversy
In the 84th minute, Everton’s James Garner’s cross intended for Thierno Barry appeared to hit Mateus Fernandes in the arm inside the box.
Everton players are surrounded by referee Stuart Attwell, a penalty should be awarded.
VAR official Michael Salisbury spent several minutes reviewing the incident before concluding that no penalty would be awarded.
The Premier League then confirmed the reason through the official X account, saying that the decision not to pay the penalty had been reviewed and confirmed by VAR, and it was deemed that Fernandes had mistakenly handled the ball during an altercation with an opponent.
The explanation will do little to cheer Everton.
Television replays showed the arm in a raised position when the ball was hit, and the suggestion that there was a foul appeared to be challenged.
David Moyes, returning to his old club, was on the phone and his players were angry, with Tottenham fans in particular expressing their anger with this video on social media.
West Ham were handed a rope and Wilson duly took it, heading home Bowen’s delivery at the near post to send the home support into raptures.
West Ham remain in 17th place and are two points behind Spurs with four games remaining.
For Everton, their European dream has had a devastating effect.
