Tottenham have given a quick update on Xavi Simons after the “really bad” injury at Wolves

Tottenham have been given a quick update on playmaker Xavi Simons following an injury which looked dire against Wolves this afternoon.

Tottenham end their long wait for a Premier League win after Wolves’ victory

Roberto De Zerbi’s side ended a run of 15 games without a win with a hard-fought 1-0 win at relegated Wolves today, where João Palhinha’s finish produced enough to see off a home side that had nothing left to fight for in the league but showed plenty of fight.

The goal came from a set piece – Spurs’ best friend in a tense and ugly affair.

The corner caused chaos in the Wolves box, Richarlison’s effort was blocked, and Palhinha was quick to react, slotting home from a few yards out.

It wasn’t good. It’s rare for Tottenham this season, but in a relegation battle, three points are three points, and these are precious, especially after West Ham’s win over Everton.

Spurs are in danger of losing their key players.

However, in the afternoon it was shady.

Dominic Solanke picked up an apparent hamstring injury in the 40th minute at Molineux, forcing him off the field and bringing on Richarlison in his place early on.

The 28-year-old, who has managed just three Premier League goals in an injury-riddled start to the campaign, is facing a wait due to the severity of his latest problem.

There is also the story of Simons.

It seems that Simons suffered a serious knee injury during today’s game, which could shake the club and the country.

The Dutchman went down after a challenge from Wolves defender Hugo Bueno, with what appeared to be a problem with Simons’ knee.

This player is then sent off after trying and failing to play.

Pending a full medical, Lorenzo said the 22-year-old could miss this summer’s World Cup – a tournament that starts on June 11 and where Simons was expected to be a key player for the Netherlands.

Lorenzo said the injury looked “really bad”, and the “strange” incident meant Simons could be out for months.

For Tottenham, the timing is sad.

Simons has been one of their standout creators in what has been another long nightmare season.

He has two goals and five assists in 28 Premier League appearances, and his performance in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Brighton – where he scored a shout and assisted – underlined how dependent Spurs are on him.

De Zerbi’s are still sitting at 3 in the tail with only four games left.

Losing the Simons now, and survival is far from secure, is a blow they cannot afford.
