Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai is open about his future at Anfield

Dominik Szoboszlai has once again found himself in the spotlight at Liverpool but this time, it’s not just for his performance on the pitch.
The Hungary captain has addressed speculation about a potential new contract at Anfield, making it clear that while talks are ongoing behind the scenes, his main focus remains on football.
Speaking after Liverpool’s stunning 2-1 win over Everton in the recent Merseyside fixture, the 25-year-old midfielder admitted there had been significant progress in talks so far.
However, his tone suggested calmness instead of concern. With his current deal running until the summer of 2028, Liverpool are under no immediate pressure, but the club are believed to be keen to secure the long-term future of one of their most influential players.
Szoboszlai has been a star player for Liverpool this season
Szoboszlai has been one of Liverpool’s brightest sparks in what has not been a frustrating season for the defending Premier League champions.
While the team’s title defense fell short as expected, the Hungarian midfielder has been putting in solid performances, contributing goals, assists, and power from midfield.
The midfielder said about his future, as reported by Sky Sports:
“There was no real progress, so I will not say anything new about the status of my contract.
“We still have a lot of games to play and I am focused on that.
“Yes, I see myself here for a long time but, as I said, it is not really in my hands.
“I love being here, as I have said many times, I am completely relaxed.
“We have five games left, then I’m going to rest – a big one – after my international break. Then we’ll see.”
The Reds are confident of keeping the midfielder at Anfield
His relaxed attitude is hardly surprising. With years left on his contract, Liverpool hold a strong negotiating position.
Any new deal would focus on improving goals and demonstrating his growing importance to the team rather than solving the immediate contract issue.
Liverpool’s long-term planning also plays a role here. The team has been rebuilding its pitching staff over the past few seasons, bringing in younger, stronger players to stay competitive.
Szoboszlai is widely considered the cornerstone of that project, along with other key players in the field.
Securing his future will send a strong message about stability and ambition as the club look to bounce back from a disappointing title defence.
The midfielder has repeatedly expressed his love for the club and the city.
His latest comments also confirmed that he sees his long-term future at Anfield, even if the final decision on contract matters rests with the club’s management and agents.
