Arsenal plan surprise move to sign £50m star Spurs want to keep
Arsenal are planning a move for Tottenham Hotspur star Lucas Bergvall, with their north London rivals now in serious danger of relegation from the Premier League.
Although the Gunners slipped up on the trip to the Etihad Stadium, they are still in the spotlight at the end of the season, having reached the semi-finals of the Champions League, and they continue to lead the way in the Premier League.
Spurs’ current woes will no doubt be a source of joy for a large section of the fans too, when Georginio Rutter scored a 95th-minute equalizer as Brighton denied Roberto De Zerbi his first win on Saturday.
However, there are major concerns for Arsenal at the moment, as they lost 2-1 against Manchester City on Sunday, in a game that could have a major impact on the Premier League title race.
Pep Guardiola’s side are now just three points clear of first place with a game in hand, and have the chance to overtake the North Londoners by beating Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday night.
Arteta will be fully focused on making sure his side finally get over the line, after a strong recovery since the EFL Cup final, but planning continues behind the scenes ahead of the summer transfer window.
Arsenal are plotting a move for Lucas Bergvall
According to a report from Caught Offside, Arsenal are now planning a surprise move for Tottenham star Lucas Bergvall, who ENIC wants to keep, as he is considered an important part of the team.
If Spurs are willing to cash in, they are expected to open negotiations for £50m, although there is no pressing need to sell the midfielder, as he is under contract until the summer of 2031.
Chelsea and Barcelona have also been credited with an interest in the 20-year-old, who was described as a “first touch like Modric” by The Athletic’s JJ Bull.
It has been a difficult season for Spurs, with Bergvall struggling through injury, missing large parts of the campaign, but managing to manage one goal and three assists in 20 Premier League appearances.
Arsenal are plotting Sol Campbell style
Yes, very few direct transfers happen between the north London rivals, with Sol Campbell’s move to Highbury causing a stir, but what a move it was, as the defender lifted two Premier League titles and three FA Cups.
That said, Bergvall is inexperienced, only appearing as a substitute for Spurs this season, while Campbell was 26 when he moved to Arsenal.
Arteta also fills in well in the middle of the park, Christian Norgaard hasn’t featured this season, with Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi holding steady places in the starting XI, so the Spurs star could be an unnecessary signing.
