Who Will the Raptors, Maple Leafs, and Devils Hire as Their Grand Master?
On Monday’s episode of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reviewed the general manager search for the Nashville Predators, Toronto Maple Leafs, and New Jersey Devils.

Elliotte Friedman: “Yeah, let’s go over this real quick. As I said Saturday night, Tom Fitzgerald was listed as a contender. I also believe that Jeff Kealty, one of their current assistant GMs, got an in-person interview. I believe the Predators have decided they’re going to go out.
Will the New Jersey Devils want to pay one or two?
And although Fitzgerald was a captain there a long time ago, he’s been gone for a while, so he’s considered an outsider. So I don’t think it’s going to be Kealty, but I heard he did well, and I think, I mean, who knows what the future holds here? But I want to see if he doesn’t get this, if other organizations start calling and asking to talk to him. I already know that you got the interview, and you did very well. I don’t think the Predators want to go inside. I would also like to see here, if the Predators are looking at Kevyn Adams or Brad Treliving.
They want an AGM, or a new GM in this position, and the fact that they went to Fitzgerald, and I think he’s a unique case, because he was their first captain, and I think he really wanted the opportunity to chase this job. The truth is they have opened up to him, I wonder if the other two boys are talking.
I heard really good things about Bill Scott’s interview, and I wanted to correct a few things that Jamie Langenbrunner discussed there. Someone had told me that was wrong, and Scott White talked to them, but I’m not sure if he did it himself. He is from Dallas. So I wanted to say those things.
Toronto, I think they’re going to have a lot of conversations this week. As I said on Saturday night, I have a feeling that they are starting to search, looking for one person. And again, I think the important thing to remember here is that we don’t know what the makeup of this front office is going to look like yet.
I think they will find someone they really like and see how it all turns out. So I think it’s possible that more than one interviewer ended up in their office. But right now, the search is for one person, and we’ll see where we go.
I also mentioned on Saturday night that we have talked about Sunny Mehta before. I think they’re going to ask more people in Florida for permission, and I suspect one of those people will be Gregory Campbell, but we’ll see.

The other is New Jersey, and they will start this week. And Sunny Mehta, I think for sure, John Chayka, for sure. I’m curious about Langenbrunner, and we’ll see where we can go there. But I think they will really start this week. And the Devils don’t run a search firm. They do this internally.”
