The West Brom star now looks like the new Pereira

West Bromwich Albion maintained their four-point gap with a 0-0 draw against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Easter Monday.

The Baggies are now on a six-game unbeaten run under interim manager James Morrison, losing just one of their last eight games in the Championship.

Morrison made an immediate impact on the team after Eric Ramsay failed to win a single game of football during his time in the dugout at The Hawthorns.

The former Minnesota United boss lost five of his nine games in charge of the Baggies before being sacked and replaced by Morrison.

Now there is a big decision to be made by the owners in the summer, before the Scottish professional manages until the end of the season as it stands.

Why West Brom should sign James Morrison permanently

West Brom should offer Morrison the chance to take the job on a permanent basis heading into the 2026/27 campaign after the club’s last two signings went through.

The Baggies brought in Ryan Mason and Ramsay on multi-year contracts with no managerial experience at this level, and both failed to perform before being sacked.

Morrison, by far, has the best points per game average of any West Brom manager in all competitions so far this season, having won three of his eight games as interim manager.

A 3-0 win over play-off side Hull City at The Hawthorns was a game that showed Morrison can get the best out of current players, as it was the club’s first league win since December.

This player who once played in the midfield for West Brom shows that he knows how to motivate and get the best out of the players, which is why he should be given the opportunity to see what he can do in the summer transfer window.

West Brom’s most improved player under James Morrison

A perfect example of the impact Morrison has had at The Hawthorns is that there is a star in the club now shining bright, after emerging as the new Oliver Burke of the club under Mason and Ramsay.

Burke was a frustrated youngster during his time with the Baggies as he could not settle in the final third, ending his spell at the club with a return of one goal and three assists in 24 games.

Isaac Price looked set to become the new version of the Scottish flop club when he produced one goal and no assists in 24 games between 22 November and 11 March.

Since Morrison took over from Ramsay, however, the Northern Ireland international has been reborn, and now looks like a new Matheus Pereira, instead of a new Burke.

Pereira, of course, was known for his intelligence and attacking prowess during his time with the club, scoring 20 goals and providing 26 assists in 77 appearances.

Price has been doing what he sees as the Brazilian’s best over the past five games, averaging 2.4 key passes per game and 1.6 dribbles completed per game.

In his one season in the Championship with West Brom, Pereira averaged 2.8 passes and 1.5 dribble completions per game, while scoring eight goals.

Despite only five appearances so far, Price is proving to be a star for Brazil with his impressive performances as an attacking midfielder for Morrison, after playing as a right-back and right wing-back under Ramsay.

The Northern Irishman has revived his season with a change in management and no longer looks set to be a flop at The Hawthorns, which is another reason why Morrison has secured the permanent job.

Hopefully the former Scotland international will get a multi-year deal and Price can continue to shine under him, helping the Baggies challenge for the bottom of the Championship table next season.
