West Bromwich Albion are just two weeks away from traveling to Norfolk to face Norwich City in the opening game of the Championship season.
There has already been a lot of change in the squad since James Morrison took over permanently, with Jimmy Jay Morgan, Barney Stewart, and Nolan Galves all joining to strengthen the first team.
Josh Maja, Daryl Dike, and Karlan Grant have all left The Hawthorns as free agents after their contracts expired earlier this month.
There could be plenty of moves at the club before the summer transfer window closes in early September, however, one player whose future is still in doubt is Alex Mowatt.
Why Alex Mowatt could leave West Brom this summer
It was reported earlier this summer that there was strong interest from other Championship sides in the experienced midfielder, although no official offers have been revealed yet.
The 31-year-old star, who scored one goal in the league last season, has just 12 months left on his contract with the club and will be 32 at the end of the campaign.
West Brom may decide to take this last chance to recoup the midfielder’s transfer fee, given the ‘significant’ interest in his services, rather than risk following Grant, Dike, and Maja for nothing.

The veteran player was solid enough in the Championship for the Baggies last term, starting most of their games, but was neither offensive nor defensive.
Mowatt can’t replace him and that could factor into the decision to leave England, as they could get him after bringing in a new player to replace him.
West Brom are preparing to offer Alex Mowatt an upgrade
In fact, the club are currently looking at a potential signing who could come to The Hawthorns as an improvement on what the former Leeds man is currently offering.
West Brom Extra are reporting that West Bromwich Albion are interested in a deal to sign SK Brann midfielder Felix Horn Myhre in the summer transfer window.
The Baggies are said to be preparing a formal bid to sign the 27-year-old from the Norwegian side to strengthen Morrison’s options in the middle of the park.
Aune Heggebo, who played with Myhre at Brann, could play a role in helping the club win the race for the star midfielder, as they already have.
The Norwegian, who has played alongside Baggies star Torbjorn Heggem at international level, was paid in the region of £2.5m amid interest from Spanish club Elche.
West Brom must now pay the necessary fee, whether that is £2.5m or closer to £3m, to bring the star to The Hawthorns as a better option than Mowatt.

Myhre bagged six goals and four assists in his last 38 league appearances for the Norwegian club, while tallying the most tackles and tackles in the 2025 campaign last year.
Mowatt, on the other hand, has produced just five goals in 39 league games for West Brom in the 2025/26 campaign, suggesting the Norwegian has the potential to pose a serious threat at the other end of the pitch.
The 27-year-old’s talent with 4.8 goals and 4.4 wins per game in two seasons in the Eliteserien also suggested he has the defensive nous to be better than Mowatt without a hand.
In the 2025/26 season, the English veteran won only three duels per game, almost two less than Myhre won per game in 2025, suggesting that he is not as combative or strong in defense.
That said, overall, the Brann maestro has the quality to quickly improve on Morrison’s Mowatt by contributing more to the team offensively and defensively in the eight role, which is why this could be a great signing for the club.
If the Baggies can agree a deal with the Norwegian club to bring the midfielder to The Hawthorns, it could open the way for other Championship sides to bid for Mowatt’s contract.
