Hurricanes Clinch 4th Division Title In 6 Periods After 6-5 Overtime Defeat Bruins – Hockey Writers – Carolina Hurricanes

For the fourth time in six seasons, the Carolina Hurricanes are division champions. After defeating the Boston Bruins 6-5 in overtime on Tuesday night (April 7), the Hurricanes captured their third Metropolitan Division title of the season thanks to Rod Brind’Amour.
Metropolitan Division Champs, guaranteed
The Hurricanes, going into their final home game of the regular season, need only a point to clinch the division title. They managed to do that, tied 5-5 after regulation. However, they were able to get both points after Jaccob Slavin scored the game-winning overtime goal for the first time this season in his 38th game. Slavin’s goal gave the Hurricanes their 50th win of the season, their fourth in the last five seasons, tying the Colorado Avalanche since 2021-22. The Hurricanes had six different players score in the win.

While winning the division, Jackson Blake reached his 50th point of the season after two assists on the night. Another milestone was Jordan Staal who claimed his 300th assist for the Hurricanes. Andrei Svechnikov scored 30 of the season, the second time in his career. Alexander Nikishin and Sean Walker had 20 assists on the season, the first time both guys had reached that mark.
As for Brandon Bussi, he claimed his 30-win season to go along with his impressive first NHL season. All in all, it was an eventful night and the storms battled for another division title. Although it is not the main goal, it is another option that has been cleared as they look to win the first seed in the next Eastern Conference.

The Hurricanes are now 50-22-6 on the season with 106 points. They have four games left and little breathing room at the top of the conference with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Buffalo Sabres, and Montreal Canadiens, who are tied for 102 points.
After their final home game of the regular season, they have a four-game road trip starting Thursday, April 9, in Chicago against the Blackhawks. After that, they’ll face the Utah Mammoth on Saturday night (April 11), then back to back on April 13 against the Philadelphia Flyers and April 14 against the New York Islanders. Their work is not done by any means, but after securing a playoff medal and a division title, their first seed in the Eastern Conference will follow, followed by hopefully their second Stanley Cup in franchise history. Currently, the Hurricanes are the 2025-26 Metropolitan Division champions.
