Seattle Kraken Report Cards for 2025-26: Cale Fleury – Hockey Writers – Seattle Kraken

The 2025-26 season has been a roller coaster for the Seattle Kraken. They had their best start ever and won their first home opener in their five seasons in the league. The Kraken were awarded a playoff berth by American Thanksgiving, which is usually a decent indicator of who will make the postseason. With two major collapses in December and late in the season, the Kraken finished with a final record of 34-37-11.

At the end of the day, no one is to blame for Kraken’s demise. Hockey is a team sport, and it was a team effort in the end. Each player did their part to try to give Seattle a chance to contend in the postseason, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. Some players played better than others. In this installment of the 2025-26 Kraken report cards, we’ll analyze and rank defenseman Cale Fleury.

2025-26 Performance

Fleury did not play much with the Kraken during the 2025-26 season. He only played in 23 NHL games, and his first game of the season was played on October 18 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. In all of these 23 games, Fleury scored one goal and recorded two assists.

When he came to play in an NHL game, it was because of a call-up when another player was injured or benched. Fleury got to play in the Kraken’s final game of the season, on April 16, which was his 100 game milestone.

While not playing with the Kraken, Fleury played for their American Hockey League (AHL) team, the Coachella Valley Firebirds. He played 39 games and recorded 26 points with seven goals and 19 assists. Despite his role as a defender, Fleury had a strong showing during his time with the Firebirds.

Impact on Seattle

When Fleury got a chance to play with the Kraken, he played on the second or third defensive pairing. His defensive partner also changed, paired with Josh Mahura or Ryan Lindgren. No matter who he was paired with, Fleury was always the perfect defensive partner.

While he didn’t have the big impact on the score sheet that you might have liked, Fleury did well when it came to stopping the playmaking team. He finished his season with a plus-1 against Seattle and a plus-10 with the Firebirds.

Fleury being paired with Mahura or Lindgren was no accident. Both players have been playing in the NHL for a long time, providing valuable experience to veterans. By pairing Fleury with one of these two players, he gets a chance to learn from a seasoned veteran of the big league hockey, which will give Fleury a chance to grow and improve as a player.

Future With Seattle

Fleury is signed through the end of the 2026-27 season. At the end of this season, he will be an unrestricted free agent (UFA).

It took only one season for Fleury to make a strong enough impact to prove that he should get another contract with Seattle. He has proven to make a strong impact in the AHL, but he hasn’t had enough time to prove that in the NHL yet.

This season might be his chance to do that. According to Puckpedia, the Kraken’s current depth chart has Fleury listed as the right defenseman on the third pairing, next to Ryker Evans. If the Kraken don’t sign any players or acquire any defensemen in trades this offseason, there’s a chance they’ll get their full NHL start.

Overall Grade

For his 2025-26 performance, Fleury earns a C. The times he had the chance to play with the Kraken, he was able to put on a decent defensive display. In the Coachella Valley, he had a solid defense and offense.

Fleury has a chance to play full-time in the NHL, and it will be up to his offseason training and training camp performance to prove he deserves a spot on the Kraken’s full-time roster. Worked well in 2025-26; let’s see if he can kick it up a notch in 2026-27.
