I hope you are enjoying your break this week. Time to check your teams, check the damage, etc. For full disclosure, ya boy has over 50 games in H2H, but he writes Vlad Guerrero Jr. basically every league I’m in has killed me. I mean, 4th in my home roto leagues and 6th in TGFBI isn’t bad, and at least I can come back! And of course, Vlad will be hot after he rests this week, book it.
He used to be a guy in the middle, the name escapes me, he’s not our current guy, who used to weigh combinations there, and I followed that. In honor of that guy I never met and left after a few months, here are the top combinations of first and third basemen by team.
It’s interesting that it’s like one great combination with two really great assets. Nick Kurtz, Matt Olsen, Sal Stewart, again Miguel Vargas they all go through 22 teams in total, so they carry their own combos. We’ll do the top five, in descending order. THE NATIONS
Luis Garcia 24, Curtis Mead 9:33 price
Garcia, a longtime center fielder, was slapped in the first inning and given his share of the 20 HR he agreed upon. He’s probably off the hook for the year, and nothing on the Statcast page screams that. I mean, it doesn’t really ring unless your phone has an alarm set to scream, which you can, but why? Mead is a Razzball favorite and recommended by everyone as determined by our contracts. The Nationals’ offense has been a joy, and these two are right.
SACRAMENTO
Nick Kurtz 28, Zach Gelof 6 34 in total
After all, that was fun. Kurtz is out indefinitely, and Gelof has a broken knee. Kurtz is clearly a monster, and he has no choice but to wait for his return. Gelof, uh, what. It’s a testament to Kurtz that he’s the second-highest ranked cornerback in the league, and a clear first-round pick for years to come.
HOTLANTA
Matt Olson 27, Mauricio Dubon 9, 36 in total
Love the consistent production Olsen has given over the years. While the batting average continues to be vulnerable, the system and the power it produces lead to sweet stats. Dubon in the third fit and do better than Austin Rileywhich tells you everything you need to know about how Riley is doing this year.
WHITE SOX
Miguel Vargas 26, Munetaka Murikami 10, number 36
I know 36 is tied, but with Murikami back, these two could be at the top by the end of the season. Yes, the slugging sensation is back for the first Sox, sure it’s back to you. White Sox fans deserve this, and if you have one of these guys, so do you depending on where you get them. You are a smart owner.
STOPPED
Little Caminero 30, Yandy Diaz 20, Jon Aranda 18
The total can be 50 or 48
Having a good bat wins a lot of duos. Yandy or Aranda makes this the highest combination with 14 points for second place! Imagine if some SS star wasn’t, well, you’ve heard that story. The first place Rays are fun to watch, flying high, and their top five-star pick next year is the best.
Honorable mention goes to the Yankees, with Ben Rice he hits 42 by himself, but if you play him first, I want to know who your replacement is!

The CUBS
Michael Busch 4, Alex Bregman -0.8
Busch’s net worth is in OBP leagues as his power dried up, and Bregman traded his bat for a pool noodle in the first half. This negative aspect of Breggy included several HRs this past week. It’s probably too late to save either guy’s season streak, but there are small signs of hope.
THE ROYAS – BAD
Vinnie Pasquantino -7, Makkah Garcia -5, Total -12
Ooooooof, and if you’re writing these guys on Friday and Seven, you’re stoked! Vinnie is at least back from injury, and maybe he can be hot in August? There has been little hope off the record.
