Brewers right hand Jacob Misiorowski scratched from his start on Sunday due to fatigue. The All-Star is expected to resume throwing Tuesday, according to Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Misiorowski will miss Milwaukee’s three-game series against Miami later this week.
The final game of the weekend series between the Brewers and the Pirates was originally supposed to pit Misiorowski against the NL Cy Young winner. Paul Skenes. Instead, Milwaukee gave the ball to the left Robert Gasserwho lost seven runs in three innings. Pittsburgh swept the division-leading Brewers with a blowout win on Sunday.
Misiorowski earned his second straight All-Star selection, but it’s clear he won’t be ready for the NL tomorrow. The latest update suggests that he is not far from returning. If Milwaukee lands him at the end of the rotation, he could be included in the starting lineup next Tuesday against the Mets. The big righty downplayed injury concerns over the weekend.
“Exhausted would be a better word,” Misiorowski told reporters, relayed by Hogg.Nothing crazy. I didn’t go back. A little faster with rest days in between but nothing wrong.”
Misiorowski threw seven innings of two-run ball against the Cardinals on Tuesday. It was his third start of the season on regular rest. He threw 103 pitches, the second-most of the campaign. The Brewers were already considering skipping Sunday’s outing and bumping Misiorowski to the end of the rotation in an effort to manage his career, notes MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy. The young righty has thrown 111 innings this year, which puts him less than 20 frames away from his career high. Misiorowski threw 129 1/3 innings between Triple-A and the majors last season.
Misiorowski, 24, followed up his promising rookie season with a Cy Young-caliber first half. He has a microscopic 1.62 ERA across 18 starts. Misiorowski collected 167 strikeouts, nearly 20 more than the next closest pitcher (Dylan Cease in 148). The righty has somewhat increased the velocity on his explosive fastball. After sitting at 99.3 mph with a four-seamer last year, Misiorowski is hitting 100.5 mph in 2026. He also added a 96 mph cutter to go with his curveball and slider. The cutter has become another weapon against lefties, especially in place of Misiorowski’s unusual changeup.
Milwaukee can’t afford another key injury in the rotation. The team recently moved the veteran righty Brandon Woodruff on the 60-day IL with shoulder inflammation. Left exit Kyle Harrison hit the 15-day IL with arm stiffness last week. Quinn Priester performed in the season following thoracic surgery. The Brewers had some decent contributions from trade acquisitions in the offseason Brandon Sproat again Shane Drohan. Logan Henderson he jumped well where he was, but missed significant time with a back injury. Starting pitching depth will likely be a focus for Milwaukee as they approach the trade deadline.
