World Cup 2026: England vs Norway statistics

  • The teams have met 12 times, the last meeting being a 1-0 win over the Three Lions in a friendly in September 2014. Norway have won two of those games, failing to score in the last four.
  • Only Brazil (14) and Germany (14) have made it to the quarterfinals of the World Cup more times than England, and this is their 11th appearance at this stage.
  • England have advanced to the quarter-finals of the last three World Cups and have conceded more goals in seven of those games.
  • Jordan Pickford could overtake Peter Shilton as England’s top scorer at the World Cup by finishing 18th.
  • Harry Kane is just behind Haaland in the race for the World Cup Golden Boot, with six goals – the total the captain also achieved in the 2018 tournament.
  • Gary Lineker, in 1986, is the only other England player to have netted multiple times in a single World Cup.
  • Erling Haaland has scored in the last of his 14 games against Norway (27 goals in total), finding a goal in all four of his World Cup appearances.
  • The last player to score in his first five games at the tournament was Colombia’s James Rodriguez in 2014, while the last European player to score was Germany’s Gerd Muller in 1970.
  • Haaland’s four goals were the game winners; only Poland’s Grzegorz Lato, in 1974, and Italy’s Salvatore Schillaci in 1990 have scored more game-winning goals in a single campaign in the tournament’s history (five each).
  • Norway has scored 12 goals and conceded nine; Germany in 1954 is the only example of a team that scored and conceded at least ten times en route to the semi-finals.
