Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has reportedly told his manager Eddie Howe directly that he wants to join Arsenal.
The Brazilian has been a top performer at St James’ Park over the years, but it looks like he could be their next player out the door.
Newcastle sold Alexander Isak to Liverpool last year, and this summer they have already lost Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and Sandro Tonali to Tottenham.

According to a reliable Arsenal source, Guimaraes has spoken to Howe and would like to join the Gunners during pre-season, while the club internally discuss a new offer.

Guimaraes is clearly Arsenal’s front-runner in midfield, with our understanding that the Premier League champions have so far had two offers rejected for the former Lyon player.

There is no doubt that Newcastle will be keen to keep Guimaraes, but we have been told by sources that Arsenal are very hopeful of a deal of around £75-80m.
If Guimaraes continues to look for a move, it will be difficult for NUFC to persuade him to move on, and it is debatable if it is in their best interests to keep the disgruntled player.
Do Arsenal need more in midfield?
Arsenal already have Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Mikel Merino, and Christian Norgaard in midfield, so why are they interested in Guimaraes?
Firstly, Rice and Zubimendi will need more rest next season after playing so much football in 2025/26. The fact that they have gone into the ground so much is also a clear sign that Mikel Arteta is not sure about Norgaard, his exit this summer will not surprise him at all.
Lewis-Skelly, on the other hand, is still young and raw, and could end up playing at left-back more often, even if he had a good run in midfield towards the end of 2025/26.
Merino can play in midfield but these days seems to be best suited as a more attacking option, off the bench as he earns a real reputation as a quality player.
That leaves a clear role for Guimaraes, who can also provide a higher quality on the ball than Rice and Zubimendi, giving AFC a new dimension going forward.
