League Points: Second Half Ratings

I put it off as long as I could. It’s not that I’m against the standard. I like to read them and use them. And I don’t mind doing it on a small scale, position by position basis. But how does the 5th best SS compare to the 13th best OF and the 9th best SP? How do the injured guys get in? That’s not how my brain works. (And I was leaving the SP rankings entirely up to MarmosDad.) And while the Rest of Season Player Rater is a great tool, it’s not optimized for points leagues. So, until now, I’ve avoided making one big, all-encompassing list. Well, with the All-Star break right around the corner, and my vacation, I can’t put it off any longer.

So, here you go. Top 200 players in the second half of the season. The process of putting it together was really different than my usual way of posing, so I didn’t follow the balance of the universe. However, each position has an excellent representation. There were also players I wish I could have included, but the 200 spots filled up surprisingly well. So, if you’re wondering where Player X is, he’s 201 years old.

Because there is no set scoring system in points leagues, it is difficult to have a one-size-fits-all set of standards. As a result, one scoring system is bound to be given more weight as such lists are compiled. My predecessor in this position was part of implementing the NFBC scoring system. For me, it’s CBS’. If you play elsewhere, I’m sorry, but that’s the one I’m most familiar with and feel has the best balance. You know your scoring plan, so mentally switch some guys up or down a few spots accordingly.

Can I talk about FTJ? Apparently not. He’s just had a weird season with a lot of stats that don’t match the current indicators. Recently that is turning around. Here is Nando in the second half looking like the guy he planned to be before the season started.
With the true level of talent, Yamamoto probably deserves the top spot. But in the points tournament, where the first two weeks are a blessing, he takes less hitting because he won’t get it. It’s not his fault, unless you want to blame him for signing with the Dodgers. Which is fine.
Skenes has been moving enough and has enough to worry about at this point in time only ranked as the 6th best SP (non-Ohtani category). It’s a hard life.

Like his teammates, Machado has been showing signs of life without the occasional home run. Turns out he didn’t forget to hit after all.
Rodon had a few more highs than this, but is currently on IL with elbow inflammation. That scares me, as does the fact that there is no time for his return. If it’s not too serious, you’re pretty good, so you’re staying here for me.

Wetherholt and Lopez felt like they were too low. Lopez, especially. On the other hand, do I really think he’s going to hit .346 for the rest of the season? It won’t. She’s still pretty though.
Helsley and Woodruff are both currently sidelined with arm injuries. Both have missed time in the past with arm injuries. I still have them here, I’m not sure what their predictions are going to be, but I’ll be honest…I don’t feel good about them.
With Langford, as his co-host on this list, I love the talent. If they can stay on the field, I think they can be on your list. They just can’t stay on the field.

This may be overly optimistic about how much you (or the Dodgers) will get from Glasnow before September.
Jump is a young striker it can be be good-to-good. He can’t even be moved. I’m glad it’s not my job to analyze and predict a pitcher’s performance every week, but I’m very happy for those who do. Thanks again, MarmosDad!
Garcia was a complete no-brainer for me coming into the season. Even up until a few weeks ago, he wasn’t someone I thought much about. Meanwhile, he is already sitting on his high-profile career. Good for him.
Moniak has missed time with an injury, but has been very good when healthy. If you want to argue that you deserve more than this, I won’t put up much of a fight. The reason he came down here is because I’m not sure if his playing time is guaranteed like other people’s. The Rockies are bad, but they have plenty of outfielders who can get at-bats, and that’s before you consider Zac Veen and Charlie Condon in the minors. Maybe someone is being traded?
