SAGNOF Bullpen Report Week 14: Latz I’m Talking About

What’s poppin’, Razzpimples?

Back on vacation (sadly), and my column has been pushed back until Thursday this week, so here we go! Time for the SAGNOF Bullpen report!

Don’t forget to keep that Razzball Bullpen Chart bookmarked. It has been completely remodeled into this amazing, powerfully updated masterpiece! The calendar view of usage patterns is pure gold.

Subscribers: Check out Autopen for today’s/tomorrow’s forecast (vulture SVHD, anyone?), which also has a similar look at usage patterns for the last 7 days. Another great tool is the helper game logs from the last 14 days! Sort/sort/export according to your needs.

Note: All Player Rater stats and values below are accurate for Sunday’s games.

Weekly Notes:

Jacob Latz (4 SV, 5:1 K:BB): Latz continues his league-esque winning season after a baller week in which he turned in four saves, bringing his season total to 18. And he has a couple in charge, so he broke the 20 SVHD milestone before the All-Star break. Crazy stuff. And you see those metrics below; it looks like this 30-year-old man, the first intimacy is real. The FIP is about a full point higher than his ERA, but it’s still in good territory. WHIP is at a high level. BB% is strong. He only issued nine walks and gave up three long balls all year.

Josh Hader ( 3 SV, 7:4 K:BB ): Hader looked as good as the player I was hoping to use his IL slot.

John Duran (3 SV, 4:1 K:BB): I think everyone who paid for Duran is happy with what he’s gotten so far.

Yoendrys Gomez (2 SV, 0:0 K:BB): Gomez has gone from owning it in SVHD leagues with SP slots to just being all over the place.

Tyler Alexander (2 SV, 3:0 K:BB): It’s an unplanned save for the backlog this week, but Latz owners needn’t worry. Alexander is there it’s okay in deep formats where you can connect him as a starter. Other than that, I see no real reason to praise him.

Riley O’Brien (2 SV, 1:0 K:BB): He was genuinely concerned there for a while, but for now O’Brien looks like the closer he was in the early weeks of the season.

Jimmy Herget (2 SV, 1 L, 2:1 K:BB): Shout out to Herget for playing well this week. When I first took over as bullpen writer here, Herget was a sexy sleeper pick for the Angels. It has never been released. I don’t think Colorado is the place he’ll end up, but he has the last two Rockies saves FWIW.

Cade Smith ( 2 SV, 1 BSV, 3:1 K:BB ): He upped the ratings a bit this week. She is still madly in love with Cade Smith. 26 ends already!!

Bryan Baker (2 SV, 2:0 K:BB): Like Latz, this guy is having a league winning season. A perfect example of how a blurry close-up can make you look like a genius.

Aroldis Chapman ( 2 SV, 1 BSV, 3:3 K:BB ): Kinda feels weird that Chapman only put up 24.2 IP this year. Can’t be too mad about the 16 SV though.

Tyron Guerrero (3 HLD, 3:0 K:BB): This man has one of those sounding video game names. I have never seen “Tyron” anywhere else in my life. He has 4 HLD in the last two weeks, but with Whitlock and Slaten around, there is only so much that can go in the Boston bullpen.

Michael Petersen (3 HLD, 5:0 K:BB): Time. I declare that Petersen should own the whole place. His last two weeks: 4 HLD (tied for 1st), 10:0 K:BB, 3.86 ERA, 0.86 WHIP.

Kevin Kelly (3 HLD, 2:0 K:BB): It is also tied for 1st and 4th HLD in the last two weeks. Having a stellar season: 21 SVHD, 3.61 FIP, 0.92 WHIP.

Bryan King (3 SV, 2:0 K:BB): Move over, Bryan Abreu. The king is the king of the Astros catch now.

Jakob Junis (2 HLD, 4:0 K:BB): Lots of catch but bad ratings lately. It could do better, it could do worse.

Hunter Gaddis (2 HLD, 3:0 K:BB): Cleveland will always give ops. Looks like Gaddis is a fit even with Sabrowski back.

PJ Poulin (1 SV, 2 HLD, 2:1 K:BB): Yes 3 SVHD this week is good, but his season numbers are great. Zilch K up. Bad BB%. I won’t bother unless you’re really hurt.

Garrett Whitlock (1 SV, 2 HLD, 3:0 K:BB): His 12 HLD is very disappointing, but overall it’s been a good 2026 so far.

Erik Sabrowski (2 HLD, 3:1 K:BB): I really hope he just shakes off the rust and doesn’t ask for some injury or something. Definitely not the lights out setup man he was before the IL stint. Giving the benefit of the doubt for now. Even though he was targeted, he still leads the league with 19 HLD (tied with STL’s Romero).

Alex Vesia (2 HLD, 5:0 K:BB): Nice to see no foot traffic this week. Already has 16 in 27.2 IP.

Tanner Scott (1 SV, 1 HLD, 4:0 K:BB): Scott is concerned about being an SV-only owner because the ops are so few and far between. Pound for pound, though, he’s one of the best in the game as well. Has a 42:3 K:BB and 0.70 WHIP on the year, along with 11 SV and 6 HLD.

Jason Adam (1 SV, 1 HLD, 2:0 K:BB): Adam continues to do Adam’s things.

Notable bummers of the week:

Will Vest (1 BSV, 1 L, 18.00 ERA, 4.00 WHIP): Worthless is just about any format these days. I don’t want the Vest at all.

Gregory Soto (1 HLD, 1 BSV, 1 L, 16.67 ERA, 2.22 WHIP): Don’t want to panic, but Soto is starting to look like the Soto we’ve seen a lot of over the years. Perhaps the warm weather and bats waking up across the league means it’s time to consider selling while the window is at least still open.

Fernando Cruz (1 HLD, 1 BSV, 1 L, 11.25 ERA, 2.50 WHIP): Bad ratings this week sadly. The overall ERA is good, but the WHIP will always be average for a guy with his type of control.

Elvis Alvarado (1 BSV, 1 L, 5.29 ERA, 0.59 WHIP): Welp, the last time I wrote to you all, I was blowing this guy’s horn. He’s not… not him anymore. He had three straight games after BSV+L returned on June 24, but that was low quality.

Caleb Kilian (1 SV, 1 BSV, 1 L, 26.47 ERA, 4.12 WHIP): The Giants’ pen is a mess. Whenever someone puts something together, they start to slip.

Brooks Raley (1 HLD, 2 L, 6.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP): He still thinks he’s a solid legend right now.

Kenley Jansen (1 L, 15.65 ERA, 2.17 WHIP): Not sure how much this future HOFer has left in the tank. The Tigers could make a mistake.

That’s it for this week! Thanks for reading. Leave me a comment below to make me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Chances are pretty good I was drinking black coffee, dark beer, or some form of bourbon while writing what you just read. By day, I am a high school English teacher. I’ve completely left X/Twitter, so you can find me on Bluesky: @jkj0787.bsky.social, where I provide daily bullpen recaps to my loyal tens of followers.
