Juventus move for Emi Martinez collapses as Tottenham star agrees £100,000-a-week deal

Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has agreed to replace Emi Martinez in joining Juventus this summer, with the World Cup-winning goalkeeper set to remain at Aston Villa.
Antonin Kinsky has signed a new contract at Tottenham in a dramatic turnaround following his nightmare spell at Atletico Madrid in March.
The 23-year-old has penned a five-year deal following a fine performance in a 1-1 home draw with Leeds and a clean sheet against Everton on the final day.
We revealed this week that Kinsky will be Roberto De Zerbi’s number one and Vicario will leave Tottenham this summer, following the arrival of Martin Dubravka as Czech backup.

Honesty |
Vicario’s days at Tottenham appear to be numbered since he was sacked from Kinsky by Igor Tudor, despite a poor start to the Champions League campaign. With Dubravka joining as experienced support and Vicario fighting a body of Premier League pieces, his exit is inevitable. |
|
Finance |
Spurs are expected to demand £20m from the Italian this summer to ensure they don’t lose money on his signing, This comes at a time when the club is trying to rebuild the team while navigating the last few years of the PSR guidelines before the new SCR model arrives. |
|
Understanding |
Vicario has been criticized for his ‘flapping’ of set pieces. At one point last season he was abused by Tottenham fans, and the Premier League had to apologize after posting content on their social media channels mocking his kick. |

Impact |
The Spurs goalkeeper joining Juventus would mean the end of their interest in Emi Martinez, who was linked with a move away from Aston Villa 12 months ago. |
Juventus have agreed a £100,000-a-week deal for Vicario
Juventus have abandoned their pursuit of Martinez after receiving indications that he prefers to stay in the Premier League, instead turning to Vicario, who traveled to Italy and fell after Inter Milan failed to reach an agreement with Tottenham, Football FanCast sources understand.
Vicario’s side have been in active talks with the Turin outfit over salary terms, agreeing a huge pay rise that will see him earn €120,000-a-week (£100,000-a-week) – although the clubs still need to agree on the money.
The 29-year-old earns £75,000-a-week in North London, making him one of the club’s top earners.
Vicario was doomed from the start
It’s easy to see if a goalkeeper doesn’t take English football lightly, once he starts getting beaten up by fans, newspapers and social media, it’s hard to go back.
Jamie Carragher did not stop talking about Vicario following Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai goal in March.
“He’s a professional but I’m telling you, Tottenham don’t have a professional goalkeeper. It’s not far from the middle of the goal, you have to save that. Wow, it’s worse, it’s more scary than the goalkeeper.
“The other guy’s reason [Kinsky] played during the week because he is not good. That was it. But Tottenham have big problems in goal. ” (March 2026)
Former Spurs player Jamie O’Hara also ripped into the former Empoli man after he appeared to blame his defense for conceding a goal against Monaco last October: “I turned around and said to him, ‘Oi, you, you dig out, where were you when we got the cross?’
“It goes into the net from a cross, every time it goes into the box.”
As for Villa, reliable goalkeepers do not grow on trees, so it is the right decision to stick with Martinez, who at 33 years old presents a small amount of sales despite all his recognition in recent years.
