Everton’s chances of signing Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus after opening talks
Everton have now launched their pursuit of Gabriel Jesus, and their chances of signing the Arsenal striker have been revealed.
In the early stages of the summer transfer window, the Toffees are keen to strengthen their attack, with Thierno Barry failing to make the impact he wanted in his first campaign at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, scoring just eight goals in the Premier League.
Barry has struggled to adapt to life in England, while Jesus has plenty of experience in the top flight, with spells at Manchester City and the Gunners.
Injuries have taken their toll, with the Brazilian limited to just 14 Premier League appearances last season, but he was praised by Mikel Arteta back in December, with the manager saying: “I think he will come with more, and I was very happy to see that and for him, so that his confidence will grow, and his teammates will hear him because some of them have not played with him yet.
“So, Gabby has a really special quality where she just connects everyone around her and that’s something we need as a team and it’s going to make us better.”

Honesty |
Not only did Barry fail to set the world alight last season, but Beto has been inconsistent on Merseyside, scoring 25 goals in 111 games for the Toffees. With that in mind, signing a proven Premier League striker would be a good move. |
|
Finance |
Arsenal are expected to hold out for £20m, so a deal for the 29-year-old won’t break the bank. However, his wage demands could pose a problem, with the forward earning £265,000-a-week at the Emirates Stadium. |

Understanding |
While playing with Man City and Arsenal, the 64-game Brazilian has amassed 79 goals and 45 assists in 243 Premier League games. However, he has only found the back of the net six times in the past two seasons, having spent most of his time sidelined due to injury. |
|
Impact |
If Everton do sign Jesus, David Moyes will have three strikers to choose from, which could be too many, given that the manager uses a 4-2-3-1 formation. Signing the Arsenal star could also have an impact on Chelsea’s pursuit of Liam Delap, who the Toffees are currently favorites to sign. |
Everton make the first move to sign Gabriel Jesus
According to journalist Gianluigi Longari (via One Football), Everton have made contact with him to sign Jesus, and Moyes is determined to add fire to his front line.
The Gunners are open to a £20m move, which should be affordable, but it is believed that his wage demands could be high, given the Toffees’ wages, and there are also concerns over his injury record.
Gabriel Jesus could be in danger of signing for Everton
The Sao Paulo-born star has shown he can be a top striker in the Premier League on his day, registering 11 goals and seven assists in 26 games during his debut campaign at the Emirates Stadium.
However, £20m would be a huge sum to pay for a player who has struggled with long-term injury, having been limited to just three Premier League starts last term.
Jesus’ huge salary could be a problem, with Delap earning £100,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge, which is modest in comparison.
Although the midfielder struggled in his first campaign at Chelsea, scoring just one Premier League goal, he managed to find the net 12 times for Ipswich Town in the 2024-25 season.
Therefore, Delap could be a target for Everton, and he is not the only Englishman interested, with Hayden Hackney set to complete his move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium this week.
Bowen made the decision to join Everton in direct talks with Moyes
The West Ham United striker has a close relationship with the Everton boss.
