Mizuno’s Pro series wedges are among the most underrated golf clubs

]The Mizuno Pro T-1 and T-3 wedges may be the most underrated wedges on the market.
As part of my trip to The Foundry, Mizuno’s R&D center outside of Atlanta, I got to spend some time with Mizuno director of golf Chris Voshall to hit balls and talk about the wedge system. I’ve already played a set of Mizuno Pro wedges with T-3 in my gap loft and T-1 wedges in the sand and lob lofts for about a year with stellar results, so it was nice to revisit the wedges and their performance.
What I love most about the Mizuno Pro wedges (and many of their predecessors) is the shape. They have a more compact shape than most other wedges, and there’s something about the small wedge head that feels confidence-inspiring. It feels like I have no choice but to mow the ball well, especially with the high sand wedge area on something like an 85-yard pitch that I want to fill.
The shape is compact and has a logical design that leads to the front; not sharp or productive but not too explosive either. There is a very nice transition from the pipe to the edge without a sharp contact point when standing over the ball at address, which I prefer. The hosel fits into the leading edge cleanly with no visible interference, and each wedge has what I would consider a “meaningful” offset look. There is a touch of offset in the wedges but it is well done, and provides some performance benefits when trying to bring the ball down, too.
Because these wedges still use Mizuno’s Grain Flow Forged HD process, they feel great, and have a copper underlay to further enhance feel. They feel buttery on the face without veering into marshmallow territory. I still want my wedges to have a little click to them, and the Mizuno delivers. You can feel the compression of the ball and the cover tear, but you still hear a solid sound that inspires confidence. We all know that feeling and sound when you cut a wedge — and Mizuno has it dialed.
You will also notice that the face has an interesting groove technology. They have more space in their Quad Cut Grooves, and added Hydroflow micro-grooves that help repel moisture. All this is good to keep the spin action not only on mishits but in everything circumstances. Clubs also have a continuous face shape; The lower pitch options are designed for spin consistency and optimal launch windows while the higher pitch options are designed for maximum green-side utilization and spin performance.

Underdog for T-3
I use two different Mizuno wedges in what would be my “gamer” set of Mizuno wedges. This is an aspect of the program that I think needs to be talked about more. Mizuno has always had two congruent wedge shapes. Before the T-1 and T-3, were the T24 and S23 wedges. With the latest Mizuno Pro series, wedges have never been more similar. From the address, it’s hard to tell which one.
The T-1 has many milling options, but the T-3 does the exact job it was intended for: It provides just a touch more ball speed and forgiveness across the face for mishits, and it’s often easier to get through a little clean ground thanks to its more forgiving sole designs.
All of this makes the T-3 a wonderful companion for high-low wedges, especially, which is why I have my 50º on the T-3 instead of the T-1. I take 95% full shots with that club, and having a more forgiving fairway with more ball speed allows me to feel more confident in working with a full swing. It also helps the gap wedge distance get a touch closer to my pitching wedge set, which creates better yardage gaps and more confidence on the course.
Mizuno Pro T-3 Custom Wedge
The Mizuno Pro T-1 and T-3 wedges have officially joined the esteemed Mizuno Pro family. As the best feel and performance wedges Mizuno has ever made, they now deserve to bear the honorable name. ICONIC MIZUNO PRO FEEL Like the T-1, the T-3 wedges are built with Grain Flow Forged HD technology and are crafted from 1025 Pure Select Mild Carbon Steel with Copper Underlay. This combination ensures the same buttery smooth response that Mizuno wedges are known for. IT-3’S SEAMLESS BAR DESIGN introduces a shallow back hole, providing increased head length for more stability and forgiveness. This design ensures consistency and control, especially in external strikes. THREE SINGLE DIFFERENT PROFILES With S, M, and Csole profiles, the T-3 wedges cater to a variety of playing styles, providing versatility for full shots, bunker play, and great shots around the green, with the former M profile replacing the sole profile of the S23 D. SPIN CONSISTENCY IN ANY CONDITION Equipped with Quad Cut + Grooves with Hydroflow Micro Grooves, the T-3 maintains exceptional control in all weather conditions, delivering confidence regardless of the lie. As in the T-1, the T-3’s stiffer high clubs focus on spin consistency, while the higher ones provide the perfect spin for ultimate control.
