Tottenham are launching a summer move for the 34-year-old goalkeeper

Tottenham are aiming to overhaul their goalkeeper department this summer as they launched a move to sign Argentine stopper Gerónimo Rulli.
The Lewis family pledged to rebuild trust in a letter to Tottenham fans this summer, outlining plans to support manager Roberto De Zerbi.
“That means that football is ahead. The Board and the Executive team have set their plans to meet this desire.
“This will require investment – in our teams, in the school, in our classroom activities and so on – and we are fully committed to this.

Honesty |
The report on Rulli comes from TyC Sports, one of the largest sports television networks in South America. The move to bring in a quality player between the sticks makes sense with Guglielmo Vicario expected to leave, meaning Rulli will battle Antonin Kinsky for the starting role with Martin Dubravka serving as third choice. |
|
Finance |
A move for Rulli would be good for Tottenham and allow them to spend big on other positions. The 34-year-old is valued at just £7.4m by Marseille and is out of contract in 2027, meaning the French club have little bargaining power if they decide to cash in this summer. |
|
Understanding |
The obvious link between Rulli and Tottenham is manager De Zerbi. The Argentine was the Spurs manager’s clear first choice during his time at Marseille, making 60 appearances over two seasons. Those games resulted in only 11 clean sheets being issued. |
|
Impact |
Rulli’s arrival would be a nail in the coffin for Spurs’ Vicario, as he had been disappointed at times last season, had injury problems and was constantly linked with Inter Milan. |
“We are not selling the club. We are all in. We are investing in it. You will see more in the coming months.”
They have moved quickly to seal the deals for Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke, and have added experienced goalkeeper Dubravka to the ranks.
Tottenham are approaching Rulli
According to Argentinian TV network TyC Sports, Boca Juniors fear their efforts to sign Rulli could be in jeopardy after Tottenham launched their move.
The report, translated by Sports Witness, says that Spurs have submitted inquiries to sign the man from Marseille, and that presents an obstacle to the South American asset.
Marseille will agree to pay £7.4m, which is exactly the kind of figure Spurs should be looking to offload having just signed Kinsky to a new contract.
Kinsky deserves first place
Tottenham might not be in the Premier League if it wasn’t for Kinsky, who made a stunning save against Leeds and beat Wolves.
The 23-year-old has gone from pariah under Igor Tudor to hero under De Zerbi, and his new contract is well deserved, as well as the chance to establish himself as De Zerbi’s first-team player.
The manager praised the youngster’s ability to bounce back following that incredible moment against Leeds.
“He played in Madrid, he made that mistake, and it was difficult for him. He has a good personality, a strong character and he deserves to play a game like today.”
So Rulli looks set to replace Vicario, who acts as a good link between the manager he played under for two years and the young goalkeeper still learning what it takes to start at the highest level.
An 8-cap Argentina international and a Europa League winner with Villarreal, the 34-year-old looks smart and smart enough to allow Kinsky to shine and the club’s massive transfer fees to keep flowing in the likes of Mateus Fernandes.
