Tottenham to make £128m move for two World Cup players after signing Sandro Tonali

Tottenham remain keen on signing Sandro Tonali as Roberto De Zerbi continues to rebuild his squad ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Italy international has emerged as one of Spurs’ first-choice midfield players following an impressive campaign with Newcastle.

Tottenham saw an opening bid worth around £80 million rejected by Newcastle earlier this month, while the Magpies are understood to have valued Tonali in excess of £100 million and have made it clear they do not want to lose one of the first names on Eddie Howe’s team sheet.

Tonali enjoyed another influential season in black and white, making over 50 appearances in all competitions as he established himself as Newcastle’s midfield leader.

The former AC Milan star impressed with his range of passing, defensive work and ability to dictate the tempo of games.

Although Tottenham continue to push for Tonali, De Zerbi is also looking to strengthen his attacking options before the transfer window closes.

The Lilywhites have been linked with Man City winger Savinho in the summer window, with the Brazilian seemingly open to a move to north London after seeing limited opportunities last season.

The Lilywhites are chasing a big-money Italian contract.

Spurs tried to sign Savinho last summer, only for the Sky Blues to block the move, with the former Girona star penning a new deal instead.

Now, the situation has changed, and Savinho left for Tottenham is alive and well.

However, the 22-year-old is not the only striker being considered by De Zerbi’s team.

Tottenham will try both Omar Marmoush and Cody Gakpo

According to Alfredo Pedullà, Spurs are planning to try a move for both Omar Marmoush from Man City and Cody Gakpo from Liverpool.

An Italian transfer expert reports that Tottenham will make efforts for two Premier League stars with the aim of signing at least one of them.

This comes despite their widely reported talks over Savinho, with Pedulla also suggesting that Spurs are planning a move for the pair after securing Tonali’s deal.

He adds that Johan Lange and Vinai Venkatesham appear to be showing ‘a lot of desire’ after almost losing last season.

Why Spurs want to sign Marmoush and Gakpo

Marmoush’s speed, direct running and movement behind defenders have made him one of the most dangerous transition players in the Premier League when given the chance.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt star also arrives at the World Cup with high expectations, with Egypt star Mohamed Salah entering the final stages of his international career.

Egypt are looking more towards Marmoush to provide another major attacking threat.

Gakpo, on the other hand, is still one of Liverpool’s most experienced attacking players despite the increased competition for places.

Liverpool striker Cody Gakpo

The Dutch international continued to provide versatility by operating from the left side or through the middle, and amassed over 50 appearances in all competitions in the 25/26 season with nine goals and six assists.

Gakpo also took encouraging form in the World Cup.

Before the tournament, he scored both goals for the Netherlands in a 2-1 win over Uzbekistan.

Since then, he has continued to shine in Ronald Koeman’s team during the World Cup campaign, scoring one goal and an assist as the Netherlands defeated Sweden 5-1.

How much would Omar Marmoush and Cody Gakpo cost Tottenham

The money spent will be huge, regardless of which approach Spurs choose, with Pedulla describing their price tags as ‘very high’.

Reports in Italy and England suggest that Liverpool will consider offers of around 70 million euros, equivalent to around £60 million, for Gakpo if the right offer arrives.

Marmoush is expected to pay an even higher fee.

City signed him for around £68 million including add-ons (Fabrizio Romano), and may be looking for a return on their investment to sell the 27-year-old.
