Carolina Hurricanes’ Jackson Blake Has Platform To Stardom – Hockey Writers – Carolina Hurricanes

The 2025-26 Stanley Cup Playoffs have reached their conclusion as the Carolina Hurricanes take home the iconic silver trophy. The best team in the NHL has won the coveted trophy. A lot of people are talking about this group. People enjoyed all the good news of this group. However, there is one player who should use this run in particular as a foundation for what’s to come in his career, rather than just a high point. That’s Jackson Blake.
Blake’s Incredible Postseason
Blake had seven goals and 13 assists for 20 points this season after 19 games, including a goal and an assist in Game 6 as the Hurricanes clinched the Stanley Cup. A lot of people think that Taylor Hall’s point per game was the mark for Carolina, but that’s not true. Blake led the Hurricanes in scoring. At the young age of 22, the Hurricanes winger was the defending Stanley Cup champion. Not a bad second season for the Fargo, North Dakota native.
The line of Blake and Hall and Logan Stankoven was unreal for the Hurricanes. According to MoneyPuck, that trio had the second-highest expected goal percentage (xG%) of any forward to play at least 100 minutes this postseason, behind only Jordan Staal’s line, and Staal won the Conn Smythe. Only 11 lines have played 100 minutes or more this postseason, so let’s lower the limit. It was the third highest in any line to play at least 80 minutes together. They were very good.
Comparable for 2006
It wasn’t the first time the sophomore burst onto the scene for Carolina and led them to a Stanley Cup run. In 2005-06, it was Eric Staal, Jordan’s esteemed older brother. His 100-point regular season, the only one in Hurricanes’ franchise history, was followed by a 28-point season, also the most in franchise history. Only senior Staal and Cory Stillman had more than 20 points in the postseason before this one, so Blake joined a special club.
Eric became the Hurricanes franchise’s all-time leading scorer after that incredible run, but never quite reached that milestone. He could not sustain the success that brought Carolina the trophy. For Blake, he has a chance to learn from his captain’s older brother’s mistakes. There is no denying that Blake is as talented as anyone the Hurricanes have ever had.
Blake’s Skillset
One of the reasons Blake is different is that he is very handsome. He watched him play in this Hurricanes’ crash-and-bang style, and he looks like a kid in the snow after school with his friends, when he seems to be the best of everyone. He’s not the type of player you expect to find in the chaos of Carolina’s program, which is why he’ll be so important in the years to come.
For someone who is just 5-foot-11, Blake is fearless. He drives to the net with the puck, and always tries to do what only the best players can do. He is not a player who lacks confidence. While he had 22 goals and 31 assists for 53 points, his postseason threw him in a different direction. Now he has earned the honor of being the top scorer for a Stanley Cup champion. He should bring this into the new season and use it as a starting point.
There’s no denying Blake’s talent. You are brave, smart, and think the game well. He’s also incredibly gifted with his hands, able to do things that elite players can’t do at the NHL level. He is an amazing skater to go with his smart hands, so he has the package to be a star. Now, Blake has to put it all together for a long time. This is his long-awaited opportunity to become one of the most feared players in the league.
In his third NHL season, Blake will face higher standards because of the playoffs. If he can replicate his playoff production pace, over 84 games a nearly 90-point pace, he could be the answer to all criticism of the Hurricanes’ lack of stars. He is still young enough to break through, and this upcoming season will be crucial as the Hurricanes defend their title. Blake could be the difference maker in the fight to retain that title.
He will have a long summer to enjoy the fruits of his hard work with his teammates. The Hurricanes captured the Stanley Cup, and you’re going to throw a summer party. However, when the focus shifts to next season, which begins in September, Blake will be the key to the Hurricanes’ machine. He has every opportunity to reach that next level and contribute to the Hurricanes’ success going forward.
